Alcatel-lucent Service Routing Certification Program

Alcatel-Lucent IP/MPLS Mobile Backhaul Transport

Course Outline

This course covers the concepts, protocols, design considerations, implementation techniques, and monitoring
and basic troubleshooting of IP/Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) mobile backhaul networks. The course
includes comprehensive hands-on lab exercises to reinforce the course learning objectives. Upon course completion,
participants will have a solid understanding of an Alcatel-Lucent mobile backhaul transport architecture supporting
2G, 3G, and Long Term Evolution (LTE) voice and data traffic and be able to support Alcatel-Lucent mobile
backhaul deployments and operational activities.

If you have already received knowledge certification by one

of the organizations identified in the following table, and
your certification is still valid, you may receive credit toward
prerequisite IP Routing exams in the Alcatel-Lucent Service
Routing Certification program. On validation, you will receive
exemptions based on the certifications that you hold. For
example, an individual who holds a valid and active CCIE w
ill be exempted from exams 4A0-100, 4A0-101 and 4A0-102.

Alcatel-Lucent IP/MPLS Mobile Backhaul Transport

COURSE OBJECTIVES

After completing the course, students will be able to:

Demonstrate working knowledge of mobile backhaul
transport network terminology and standards bodies
Describe the mobile backhaul transports role in supporting
2G, 3G, and LTE network environments
Analyze, compare and contrast Hub and Spoke and Ring
topologies as deployed in a mobile transport solution
Position and explain the functional roles of the AlcatelLucent Service Router Operating System (SROS) products
at the appropriate Points of Concentration in a mobile
backhaul transport solution
Describe Ethernet, SONET/SDH, Time Division
Multiplexing (TDM), and Asynchronous Transfer Mode
(ATM) access port configuration and components to
support 2G, 3G, and 4G point-to-point and multipoint
service access
Provision Ethernet and TDM access interfaces for use in
Ethernet, ATM, and TDM point-to-point services
Explain the physical and adaptive node and circuit timing
options deployed in todays backhaul networks
Provision and manage mobile backhaul network timing and
synchronization using external timing (BITS), Synchronous
Ethernet (SyncE)/Synchronous Status Message (SSM), and
IEEE 1588v2 Precision Time Protocol (PTP)
Configure Base Station (BTS) and the Mobile Telephone
Switching Office (MTSO) TDM, ATM, and Ethernet access
interfaces
Provision Intermediate System-Intermediate System (ISIS),
Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and MPLS in the mobile
backhaul transport
Establish protected MPLS Label Switch Paths (LSPs) and
Service Tunnels (SDPs) to carry traffic from the cell site to
the MTSO
Understand L2 and L3 VPN service topologies, including
ePipe, iPipe, cPipe, aPipe, Virtual Private LAN Service
(VPLS), and Virtual Private Routed Network (VPRN)
services, as they are deployed in the Hub and Spoke and
subtended Ring topologies

Provision Virtual Private Wire Services (VPWS) (ePipe,

aPipe, cPipe) between the cell site aggregation and mobile
service provider gateway routers in a Hub and Spoke
topology
Establish mobile backhaul VPLS services at the MTSO
service routers
Configure mobile backhaul VPRN services at the MTSO
