~STORY~
Everyone: That Day. *Bow
All: We still remember that day the day when we visited our grandparents.
It might be just another summer day to everyone but to us, it is special. The
four of us were excited about to the capital times we were about to
experience with our grandparents. When we stopped in front of their door,
Jane called:
Jane: Grandma, Grandpa! Were here.
All: As if on cue, the door swung open and revealed our grandma. She
spread her arms widely, ready to hug us and then smiled. After showing her
our respects and affection, she said:
Minerva: My grandchildren! How are you? Come in, come in. And sit on that
couch.
All: When we were making ourselves comfortable with the couch, Christian
asked:
Christian: Hey, Grandma. Where is Grandpa?
Minerva: Oh, please wait. (Shifts into a cranky woman) Ruben! Whats
taking you so long?! Our grandchildren are waiting!
Alfred: Huh? What did you say?!
Minerva: OUR GRANDCHILDREN ARE WAITING!!
All: Our Grandpa showed up walking with his cane.
Alfred: Teresa, how many times do I have to tell you not to scream Oh,
hello there, young ones.
All: Grandma sighed and rubbed her temples as we deliver our respects to
Grandpa. (Minerva: *Sighs) It was Christian who declared that we were
starving. Grandpa led us to the dining room and surprised us with a
satisfying meal. We ate until we couldnt take another bite. Then Grandma
brought out her homemade cookies and offered it to us.
Minerva: Eat. Your stomachs will not cry after eating these.
All: She persisted after we declined. Finally, she said:
Minerva: My dears, you see, in life, there are countless of blessings
expecting for us to get them. However, we decline and look for something
else farther from our reach. Soon, we start to regret because in the end we

will receive nothing. So, eat these cookies because it may be your last
chance eating them!
All: Grandma immediately shoved the cookies into Christians mouth. And in
fear, the three of us took a cookie and started chewing before Grandma
shoves cookies in our mouths and make us choke to death. Our grandma has
this talent to stimulate the mood by quoting things to catch us off guard. We
tried to chew the cookies but they were hard as stones.
Minerva: How is it?
Christian: *Chokes and coughs
Jane: It tastes like sandpaper
Marian: The cookie broke my tooth.
Minerva: Would you mind repeating it, the three of you?
Jessie: Oh! Marian said it hooked her sweet tooth. Jane said it tasted like
maple. Christian tried to speak when he was still chewing.
Minerva: How wonderful to know! Next time, Christian, dont talk when your
mouth is full.
All: The six of us spent the whole afternoon watching movies, playing board
games and strolling in the park. Then, Grandpa tried to play basketball but
failed because arthritis started attacking his limbs. At dusk, Jessie and
Grandpa played Games of the General.
Christian: Both are spies.
All: Christian said as he took the pieces off the board. Jessie moved a piece
and said:
Jessie: Grandpa, prepare for your doom!
All: Grandpa calmly moved a piece and said:
Alfred: Well see about that.
Marian: Ah. He ate the flag.
Jane: Grandpas the winner!
Jessie: What?!
Alfred: You see, children? From this game, we can pick up something: Do
your best in everything and when you lose, learn from it. One day, youll
become victorious and grateful because of that lesson.
All: Then Grandma entered the room carrying a grocery bag.
Minerva: Come here, all of you! I bought ice cream!
All: We yelled in delight and ran towards her. After munching the ice cream,
we decided to tell stories. Grandpa was the first one to share.

Alfred: When I was a kid, Ive always dreamt to be a soldier and serve our
country. And to my delight, I became one when the Japanese decided to
attack Philippines.
Christian: But Grandpa, you already told us about that countless of times
now.
Alfred: Really? Then, let me tell you that time when I wanted to become a
soldier. And guess what? I became a strong and certified one! It proves that
dreams, even when it sounds impossible, can be fulfilled. We only need hard
work, patience and hope to achieve it.
Marian: Grandpa, you just repeated the story.
Alfred: I did?
Minerva: Oh, be patient with your Grandpa, Jane. Sometimes, he mutters to
himself and forgets that his glasses are just on top of his head when hes
looking for them.
All: Grandpa placed his hand on top of his head.
Alfred: My glasses! I found them!
Jessie: Grandma, thats Marian not Jane.
Minerva: Oh, Im sorry, Joseph.
Alfred: Teresa, Joseph was the gardener of the neighborhood! Im sorry for
the confusion, Timothy.
Christian: Uuum. . .Grandpa, thats Jess
Minerva: Enough of this nonsense! Your mother gave you your names and I
am your mothers mother so I have authority to call you whatever I want.
All: Grandpa stood and we heard his bones cracking loudly. He tried to
stretch yet failed and he ended up rubbing his aching back.
Alfred: Well, then. Lets call this a night, children.
All: We slept peacefully. All of us were tired after all those lively things we
had done. When morning came, we had a sublime breakfast. After that, we
reluctantly said our goodbyes to them because it was time for us to depart.
Jane: Im going to miss you, Grandma.
Jessie: Cant we just stay with you?
Minerva: Oh, I would love you to stay here with us but that would be selfish.
Youre better off exploring and experiencing the world rather than trapped
inside with us. Experiences make you better persons than us. And well be
here cheering for all of you. Besides, Im already taking care of a lazy man. I
dont want four more.

Alfred: I AM NOT LAZY!! Youre the one who slacks all day while I do most of
the work!
Minerva: Oh, please stop lying, dear. You might influence the children.
Marian: I appreciate the random cheer coming from nowhere, Grandma. But
dont you think it sounds off topic?
Christian: Thats Grandma for you.
Alfred: You better get going now. Your parents might get worried.
All: We obeyed and slowly left. And ever since, we never forgot that visit.
During our school days, we received a message that our Grandma departed.
We cried bitterly for the loss and pleaded to our parents to visit them.
However, they forbade us and made us attend school the next day. Soon, our
Grandpa experienced stroke and died just months apart. This time, we
accepted their departure and stayed strong because we know that theyre
still with us alive in our hearts.
Jessie: Yes, we know that it is common for children to visit their
grandparents. However, ours is one of a kind.
Jane: Although it has been many years since our last visit, the memory of it
is still vivid.
Christian: It was a great summer day. A day filled with stories and laughter.
Marian: And all the warm care they showed us, during their ephemeral days,
continues to be cherished as we grow.
Everyone: The End. *Bow
