THEA 102: Introduction to Performance
Professor Debra Pelinski
MTWRF, 11:00 - 12:45
Answer quickly: What would you rather do stand up and speak in front of a
hundred people or be caught without your clothes on? Now that I have your
attention, whats your answer? Author and speaker Janet Esposito, MSW
suggests that baring it all comes out ahead every time. Performance and
anxiety are closely intertwined.
There is a great probability that the notion of performance will be a key
element in your obtaining and keeping a job in the arts, in business,
medicine, sports, law, economics, education, health care, politics etc. In the
Introduction to Performance course, an atmosphere of creativity, spontaneity,
and fun is nurtured so that students experience greater freedom, flexibility and self-expression in
performance situations while limiting anxiety and fear. Class sessions will include warm ups of voice and
body, theater games, improvisations and other exercises. Experience the release of fear of public
speaking through participation in Introduction to Performance course

POSC 220 INTRO TO PUBLIC POLICY
PROFESSOR JOHN MARTIN
M TWRF, 11:00 - 12:45
This course will look closely at the impact of race and class on the development and implementation of American
Public Policy. Two specific case studies will be the primary focus of the course: Katrina (10 years after) and
Ferguson.
Hurricane Katrina
Students will learn the basic governmental components of policy making in
America. We will focus on the respective responsibilities of the distinct
levels of American government: local, state and federal. We will also focus
on the respective roles of the 3 branches of government. Students will also
learn the about the basic stages of public policy, from the initial
identification and definition of the
problem(s), to the politically
contentious process of selecting and
supporting the best response(s) to
dealing with the problem. Katrina and
Ferguson are of course very different
situations. Still, these case studies will
provide an opportunity to focus upon and consider the impact of race and
class in the United States across a wide range of public policy areas.
This course can be used to meet the group C group course Ferguson, MO
