Was the U.S. Justified in Going to War With Mexico?

War, its a harsh, cruel, and bloody event that many nations and countries fall to.
Sometimes war is caused without a valid reason and many innocent lives are lost. Mexico had
just recently split from Spain. While Mexico was having some land issues with Texas, the U.S.
wanted to take land from Mexico. So President James K. Polk had General Taylor station his
troops at the disputed territory border. This angered Mexico, so they came to battle with the U.S.
army, thus starting the war with Mexico. Many wonder if it was right for the United States to go
to war with Mexico. I say that it was not right for the United States to have gone to war with
Mexico. The United States were the ones who started the problem with Mexico in the first place,
The U.S. was greedy for land, and when the Americans moved into Mexico they did not abide by
the Mexican laws.
It was very wrong of the United States to go to war with Mexico. If the Americans had
simply left the Mexicans alone the war would have never occurred. According to the History
textbook the reason why the Mexicans attacked the U.S. Troops was because they had come into
the boundary of disputed territory. If the Americans had not done that the Mexicans would not
have attacked anyone. Though the Americans may have provoked the Mexicans they never went
past the boundaries. Taylors group only set up troops near the boundary and never actually
entered the disputed territory so there was no reason for the Mexicans to attack the Americans.
Another reason that it was wrong for America to go to war with Mexico is that the
Americans were greedy for land. Again according to the textbook the United States wanted to
expand their land so they provoked war with Mexico. Was it really fair of The United States to
unrightfully take the land of the Mexicans? But The United States may not have been wrong

because many Americans believed that it was the United States Manifest Destiny to stretch from
sea to shining sea.
Lastly, it was wrong for The United States to go to war with Mexico because when the
Mexicans let the Americans into Texas they did not abide by their rules. According to a
document written by Charles Summer, Americans crossed the border with slaves in defiance of
the Mexican ordinance of freedom. When a country lets you settle in their land you must follow
their rules. But many Americans did not do so. So when the Mexicans very kindly opened up
Texas to the Americans, how was it acceptable to go to war with them. Although, Mexico was
the ones who invited the Americans in the first place and the Mexicans should have better
enforce their laws.
In conclusion I believe that it was wrong for The United states to go to war with Mexico
and that the U.S. unrightfully took the land. The Americans were greedy that they needed to
provoke war with Mexico and if General Taylor had not stationed troops at the disputed territory
border the war would have never happened.
