This Weeks Scope

Bible Story: Oh, the Places Well Go (Paul chooses Timothy) Acts 16:1-5
Bottom Line: When you discover your gifts, you can make a difference.
Memory Verse: Dont let anyone look down on you because you are young. Set an example for the
believers in what you say and in how you live. 1 Timothy 4:12a, NIrV
Life App: Individualitydiscovering who you are meant to be so you can make a difference.
Basic Truth: I can trust God no matter what.

Welcome Time
What You Need: Not Alike Activity Pages, markers or crayons
What You Do:
Give each child a Not Alike Activity Page.
Guide kids to look at each set of pictures and find things that are different about each set.
Instruct them to find the one animal/person that is different in each set. Lead them to mark the
differences they find.
What You Say:
Did you know that no two zebras, turtles, pigeons, or people are exactly alike? Each one is different
and unique! There arent even any two humans who are exactly the same! Even identical twins have
things that are different about them. [Transition] In Large Group today, well hear about someone
who learned that HE was unique. He also learned that God had a plan to use his unique talents
to make a difference. Lets go learn more.

Activity #1
What You Need: Ive Got Talent! Activity Page, Talent Trivia Activity Page, tape
What You Do:
Guide kids to sit in a circle.
Review the Bible story by asking the following questions:
o Who was our story about today? (Timothy)
o Who was on a journey to tell lots of people about Jesus? (Paul)
o Why did Paul visit Timothy? (To invite him on the journey to tell people about Jesus.)
o How did Timothy learn to preach and teach? (By watching Paul)
o Remind kids that even though Timothy had the talents and gifts for teaching and
preaching, he had to be trained by Paul in order to learn how to use his gifts. Timothy
made a difference after he discovered his gifts and was trained to use them.
Tape an Ive Got Talent! card to the chest of each kid.
Guide kids to mingle around the room.
Call out a riddle from Talent Trivia Activity Page and lead kids to gather around the child whose
gift answers the riddle. For variety, kids can move in different ways for each round of the game.
End by asking how each gift could make a difference. If necessary, provide plenty of prompting
questions to help the kids brainstorm ideas. (How could the gift of playing an instrument make a
difference for someone who is sad? How could the gift of helping others make a difference for
someone who is moving? How could the gift of drawing make a difference for someone who is
sick?)
What You Say:
EVERYONE has talents. God gave us our talents so we can make a difference. Its okay if you dont
know what your talent is now. Some of Gods gifts come later, and we only realize what they are after
some time and training. The important thing to remember is this: [Bottom Line] when you discover
your gifts, you can make a difference.

Prayer Time
Supplies: None
What You Do:
Gather kids into a circle
Talk about the greatest gift God has given us: His Son, Jesus. Remind kids that the Bible says
that when we choose to believe in Jesus and follow Him, were given a special gift to use that
will help us share Gods amazing love with others.
Tell kids to bow their heads and close their eyes
What You Say:
God sent Paul into Timothys life to help him discover his gift of teaching. Timothy learned how to use
his gift to help Gods kingdom. When you discover your gifts, you can make a difference. It doesnt
matter how old you are, God can use you any time, any place! Im going to pray for you the way Paul
prayed for Timothy: that God will help you know Him and the gifts Hes given you.
Dear God, thank You for giving gifts to those who believe in You. (Add a brief personalized prayer here
for each kid.) Help all of us find and use our gifts in order to point others to you. In Jesus name, amen.

#2

What You Need: Moving Story Script Activity Page

What You Do:
Explain that the kids will be reviewing todays Bible story by acting it out as you read from the
Moving Story Script. They will take turns being human puppets and movers.
Assign kids to be Timothy, Timothys Mom, Timothys Grandma, and Paul. They will be the
puppets. The other kids will be movers.
Tell the kids who are the puppets that they cannot move on their own. Instead, the movers
must physically move the puppets arms, legs, head, etc. into different positions according to the
actions in each scene.
Be sure to change your voice to fit each character as you read the script.
As you tell the story, consider having kids rotate into different roles during the two scenes so
that they get a chance to be both a puppet and a mover.
What You Say:
Great job moving the human puppets and retelling Timothys story! We learned a lot today about the
exciting way God used Timothys life. God wants to use your life too. He wants to be your MOVER by
helping you use your arms to reach out to others and your legs to go places to serve Him. In fact, God
wants to use EVERYTHING about you in order to help others know Him. God has given you gifts just
like He gave Timothy. The gifts God has chosen for you might look different than Timothys, but they are
just as important. Like Timothy, you need to ask God to help you find out what your gifts are and then
practice using them. Why? Because [Bottom Line] when you discover your gifts, you can make a
difference. Every person here has a talent that God can use. When you find your talent, work hard and
learn the best way to use that gift for God. Thats when amazing things can happen.

Activity #3
What You Need: Bibles, glue, All Shapes and Sizes Activity Pages
What You Do:
Help the kids look up this months memory verse: 1 Timothy 4:12
If anyone wants to read the verse aloud, let that kid do so. Otherwise, read the verse to the
group.
Pair up and give partners the prepared All Shapes and Sizes Activity Page.
Tell them that each card has one or more words of the memory verse.
Explain that their job is to read the words on the cards and then glue them in order onto the
paper.
When all the groups have finished, have them take turns reading the verse from their pages.
What You Say:
Just because some of the words were written in teeny-tiny letters, it didnt mean that they werent
important. On the other hand, just because some words were written very LARGE it didnt mean that
they were more important than the tiny words. Large, small, big, talljust like the letters, people are all
different too. But each one is still important. You may be young and feel small sometimes, but that
doesnt mean you cant serve God. He uses old people, young people, tall people, short people, and
even kids to spread the word about Him. [Bottom Line] When you discover your gifts, you can
make a difference no matter how young or old you are.
