DENVER SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION CALENDAR PRIORITIES

AUGUST

MAIN PRIORITIES: setting up systems, planning for the year, and meeting with seniors.
Set up organizational strategies with counseling team. Divide responsibilities and
confirm processes on things like transcript request process, admissions visits, NCAA
eligibility, and calendar for year.
Begin scheduling admissions visits for the fall.
Identify, contact, and create plan with all seniors. Advise on college lists.
Communicate admissions process to all seniors.
Plan senior parent night.
Begin distributing scholarships.

SEPTEMBER

MAIN PRIORITIES: meeting with seniors about their college plans, and helping them
understand the application process.
Start facilitating first admissions visits.
Create plan and method for distributing scholarships to students.
Organize College Campus Visit for Fall Semester CSU and UNC.
Prep for Day/Night College Fair.
Continue identifying, contacting, and creating plan with all seniors. Advise on college
lists.
Advertise ACT sign-up and help students sign up using fee waivers if needed.
Help students to write/revise college/scholarship essays.
Identify those eligible for scholarships and distribute, and help students complete them.
Update Naviance regarding application and scholarship applications/awards.

OCTOBER

MAIN PRIORITIES: helping students apply to college, helping students apply to


scholarships, facilitating admissions visits.
Help facilitate admissions visits. October is the BUSY time when admissions reps from
out of state are making the rounds.
Follow-up with students applying to college.
o Nov. 1st deadline for common application schools.
o Follow-up with students applying early decision and early action.
o Help students with actual application forms, and transcript request process.

DENVER SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION CALENDAR PRIORITIES

o Continue revising college essays/personal statements with seniors.


o Write letters of recommendation as needed.
Identify, create plan, and assist students with Daniels Fund Scholarship Application.
o Deadline near the end of November.
Identify, create plan, and assist students with Gates Millennium Scholars Program
Application.
o Deadline in mid-January.
Identify and distribute scholarships, and help students complete them.
Update Naviance regarding application and scholarship applications/awards.

NOVEMBER

MAIN PRIORITIES: helping students apply to college, helping students apply to


scholarships, facilitating admissions visits.
Work with students to complete the CSS Profile for selective colleges.
Implement Financial Aid Night.
Assist students in completing the Daniels Fund scholarship application.
o Deadline end of November
Continue helping students finish college applications.
Continue identifying and distributing scholarships, and helping students complete them.
Continue updating Naviance.

DECEMBER

MAIN PRIORITIES: helping students apply to college and helping students apply to
scholarships.
Assist students in completing scholarship applications for Greenhouse Scholars, Hispanic
Scholarship Fund, and GMS Program.
o Greenhouse Scholars Deadline: Mid-January.
o Hispanic Scholarship Fund General College Deadline: December 15.
o Gates Millennium Scholarship Program Deadline: Mid-January.
Continue to work with students who have not yet applied to college(s).
Identify and distribute scholarships and help students complete them.
Prep for financial aid season.
Update Naviance regarding application and scholarship applications/awards.

DENVER SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION CALENDAR PRIORITIES

JANUARY

MAIN PRIORITIES: helping students understand the financial aid process and market
the FAFSA workshop, help students who still need to apply to college, help students
apply for scholarships.
Advertise FAFSA Workshop(s). Communicate to all students and parents what to bring.
Prep for FAFSA Workshop: request volunteers, prepare and organize all documents, get
computers labs ready.
Begin helping students complete FAFSA.
Create plan and begin DSF Scholarship outreach.
o Help eligible students complete 3 scholarships first.
Continue working with students on college applications. Outreach to students who still
have not applied.
o Recommended to do a final application workshop to catch up last students who
have not applied before financial aid season begins.
Continue identifying and distributing scholarships, and helping students complete them.
Continue updating Naviance regarding application and scholarship applications/awards
.

FEBRUARY

MAIN PRIORITIES: helping students complete the FAFSA form, helping students apply
for scholarships including DSF.
Advertise FAFSA Workshops and lead the workshop(s) at your school.
o FAFSA priority deadline = March 1st for most CO schools, sometimes earlier.
Help with 5-6 FAFSA Workshops at other schools on nights/weekends.
Help students who have completed FAFSA update their FAFSA with most recent taxes,
and connect their FAFSA to the IRS data retrieval tool.
Help students complete DSF Scholarship Application.
o Continue helping them apply for at least 3 scholarships fist.
Identify and distribute scholarships, and help students complete them.
o Theres a special focus this month on helping students to complete institutional
scholarships, which are commonly due March 1st in Colorado.
Help set up and facilitate spring admissions visits.
Update Naviance regarding application and scholarship applications/awards.

MARCH

MAIN PRIORITIES: helping students complete the FAFSA form, helping students apply
for scholarships including DSF, and helping students update their FAFSA.
Continue helping with FAFSA Workshops.
Reach out to students who have not completed FAFSA yet, and help them.
Help students who have completed FAFSA update their FAFSA with most recent taxes,
and connect their FAFSA to the IRS data retrieval tool.
Help students log into their college online portal to check their financial aid
requirements and complete any required verification forms.
Help students complete DSF Scholarship Application (April 1 deadline), and 3 other
required scholarships.
Help set up and facilitate spring admissions visits.
Update Naviance regarding application and scholarship applications/awards
Advertise/post summer/volunteer programs and opportunities.

APRIL

MAIN PRIORITIES: helping students complete verification forms, helping students


understand their financial aid options, helping students with enrollment steps.
Assist students with interpretation of financial aid award letters.
Continue helping students who still need to complete FAFSA.
Help students who have completed FAFSA update their FAFSA with most recent taxes,
and connect their FAFSA to the IRS data retrieval tool.
Help students log into their college online portal to check their financial aid
requirements and complete any required verification forms.
Help set up and facilitate spring admissions visits.
Help students with final enrollment steps:
o Accepting financial aid.
o Completing enrollment deposit or requesting waiver if needed.
o Completing housing forms.
o Signing up for orientation.
o Completing any required placement tests such as the accuplacer.
o Meeting with academic advisor and registering for classes.
o Turning in immunization forms.
Prepare for senior check out process and graduation.
Continue to identify and distribute scholarships, and help students complete them.
Update Naviance regarding application and scholarship applications/awards.
If possible, begin reaching out to juniors.
o Help them write personal statements. Coordinate with English teachers.
o Help them understand ACT scores.

Use senior check out as last chance to help students complete last tasks, and determine
where to send final transcript.
Update Naviance regarding application and scholarship applications/awards for final
data report and end-of-year meeting.
Continue helping students with final enrollment steps:
o Accepting financial aid.
o Completing enrollment deposit, or requesting waiver if needed.
o Completing housing forms.
