Outline:
Missionary Expansion Missionary effort by Magellan in the 16 th century led to the
first Christians in the Philippines (Raja Humabon and men). This took place in
Limasawa Island. Christian missionaries toiled to deliver the message of Christ to all
men. Missionaries were either shunned or welcomed by the people. The first Filipino
saint was Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila; he was among those Christian missionaries who
were martyred for their faith. The Christian mission spread from the West to the
East and missionaries became new heroes of the faith by their dedication to Christ.

Reconsideration of Science as an Alternative Source of Truth Science started

disproving the things taught by the Bible, and this led to some people taking it
seriously by regarding Science as the only absolute source of Truth and disregarding
the words of the Bible.

Enlightenment Mans pursuit of knowledge showed flaws in the scientific teachings

and reasoning of the Church, and this led to the rise of doubt on the Church and
atheism. Scientific laws made by Darwin, Newton and many more triumphed over
religious teachings, this led to people believing in science more than religion.

complement each others the pursuit of the truth and the highest good and its
declaration concerning papal primacy and infallibility on matters pertaining to
faith and morals necessary for ones salvation
