COMIC BOOK PLAN TEMPLATE

Author: Lauren Sinclair


Title: Lady EM
Topic: Physical Science- Electromagnetic Spectrum (Infrared Waves)
Audience: 8th grade students

Goals/Objectives:
The purpose of the story is to engage the students in learning about specific sections of
the Electromagnetic Spectrum. The story will introduce the Electromagnetic Spectrum by
identifying some real world examples with some nonscientific examples. By the end of the unit
the students should be able to reread the comic book and determine which scientific facts are
true.
Script (Use Comic Book Scripting Techniques Document to Help):
Page 1-Title Page
[The title page is to be simple only introducing Lady EM as the Electromagnetic
Spectrum detective. The letters spelling our LADY EM should be bubbled and each letter
should have a different color. An orange/red background. The wording rest of the
wording should be blue.]

Panel 1
[There should be a narration block located at the top center of the panel. All characters
are only shown from waist up. Katie, a pale Caucasian female, dressed in a red shirt with
long black hair, is surrounded by crew wearing their head sets. Katie is the only character
that does not wear a headset. Linda, a Caucasian female, has short blonde hair and is
wearing pink shirt. Samantha, a Caucasian female, has long red hair and is wearing a
gray/silver shirt. Jessi, a Caucasian female, has short, dark brown hair and is wearing an
orange shirt. Corey, an African American, has short, light brown hair and is wearing an
orange shirt. Wendy, an African American, has long dark hair and wearing a yellow shirt.
Bryan, a Caucasian male, has short light, brown hair and is wearing a green shirt. The

Katie Jones runs a telemarketing business in Smalltown, Ohio. She has 6
employees, Linda, Samantha, Jessi, Corey, Wendy, and Bryan. The crew, as Katie
calls them, has just been named the #1 telemarking service in their region. The
crew has known each other for years and work great together. Katie is pleased
with her employees because they are always willing to lend a helping hand.
Katie: Good morning, guys. I hope everyone charged their head gear

last night. Its going to be a busy day! We have a new set of
goals to meet in order to keep our #1 spot in the region. We
have to sell a minimum of 200 items today. Does everyone know
what you have to do? Sell, sell, sell.

desk. They are calm and happy to be speaking with customers. The background should be

Wendy: Good morning, Mrs. Smith. How are you?
Corey: Hi, Mr. Bush. I hope I havent caught you at a bad time.

[Samantha, Linda, Bryan, and Jessi, dressed in the same attire as in pane 1, are making
phone calls at their desk. They are excited to be speaking to customers. The background

Samantha: Hello, Mr. James. This is Samantha
Linda: Good morning, Mr. Taylor. How are you this morning?
Bryan: Good morning, Can I speak with Mrs. Johnson?
Jessi: Hi, Mrs. Walker. I hope you are having a great morning.

[Samantha, Wendy, Linda, Bryan, Jessi, and Corey are all in the break room during lunch.
Some characters are sitting around a table while the others are near the counter with the
microwave. Characters are still in same attire as panel 1. All characters are happy expect
Samantha. Samantha is frustrated with by wearing the headset. The background should be
blue to represent a calm mood.]
Linda: We are on a roll. Ive already sold 23 items today.
Bryan: Good for you! Ive sold 21.

Samantha: I cant meet my goal because of this stupid headset. Its too
tight on my head and leaves an indention in my hair.

Bryan: I cant make a call. My headset isnt working! Someone switch with me!

aggravated look on their face. The background should still be red representing the mood.]
Wendy: Omg! I cant make calls either!
Samantha: Ugh!
Corey: Samantha, what have you done to the infrared headsets?
Jessi: I cant turn this one on.
Linda: HELP!

[Katie, dressed in original attire, should be look flustered and rushing to her cellphone.
The cellphone, mostly black, should have a speech bubble for the person on the phone.

Narrator Block: [In top center of the panel] Katie overhears the crew yelling. She rushes to her
cellphone to call for help.
Katie: Lady EM, help! Our infrared headsets have suddenly stopped working. We have
customers to call. Please hurry!

[Lady EM, dressed in a black turtle neck with brown hair and sunglasses, is a mysterious
woman. Katie and the crew, dressed in original attire, are excited to see Lady EM. The
background changes back to blue because a calming piece has come over the crew.]
Narrator Block: [In the upper left corner of pane 9] Lady EM is a mysterious woman who has
special glasses that allow her to see waves of from the electromagnetic spectrum.
Katie: Thank goodness youre here! The router is in my office, but everyone works in here.
Lady EM: Let me be. I will take care of the problem.

[Lady EM, dressed in the same attire, should be secretive and still. She should be looking
at a black router with a handheld mirror facing it. Red infrared waves should be leaving the
router, hitting the mirror and reflecting back to the router. The background is yellow due to Lady
EMs excitement for Electromagnetic Waves.]
Lady EM: Ah ha!

[Lady EMs foot in a red high heel, hits the handheld mirror that is reflecting the red
infrared waves and the waves begin to pass. There should be an exploding bubble with
the word Crack inside. This is to represent the sound of the mirror breaking. The
background is still yellow.]
