Course Description:
Practicum hospital and community settings (21 hrs/ wk) with an
integration seminar of 3 hrs/ wk focusing on leadership ethico-legal issues,
researches on nursing and evaluation of patient care.
Objective:
After 408 hrs of exposure in varied practice settings where the
students has performed the activities & functions of a beginning staff nurse
& strengthened her leadership skills, the students shall have decided on are
of concentration in clinical practical practice upon graduation.
Pre-requisite: N-105
Students: 4th year
Placement: 2nd sem
Setting: clinical (hospital & community) and classroom/ seminar room
Prof. Responsibilities
After 408 hours (12 wks) of staff nursing experience in a hospital
setting/ community health agency utilizing team nursing method/ primary
care nursing through family health care, the student shall have:
1. Provided nursing care to a group of patients/ clients & family utilizing
the nursing process, leadership, communication & decision making
technique
2. Conducted health teaching to a group of patients/ clients based on
discharged plan.
3. Identified the In-service training needs of staff nurses in the ward/
center.
4. Discussed the ethico-legal, socio-cultural aspects on nursing care the
desired values for professional nursing.
Given the opportunity to attend a seminar/ symposium, the student:
1. Shares relevant empirical data to elucidate and/cr contribute to
concepts/ views expressed.

2. Asks questions to verify observations experiences.


3. Appreciates the need for seminars, symposium, etc... To augment
existing knowledge and experiences obtaining in the ward.
Content:

a. Primary care nursing in the Philippines: An assessment
Integrating Seminar
b. Principles/ concepts of management
c. Leadership concepts/ principles as applied
d. Principles of health education; Adult education
e. In service education programs, a must Ethigo-legal Dimension of
nursing the nurse as a participant in court legitation
Integrating seminar:
a. Nutrition
b. CDD/ EPI control of diarrheal diseases/expanded program of
immunization
RELATED LEARNING EXPERIENCE
Hospital
First week Orientation: personnel, physical set-up, policies &procedures.
Major Responsibilities: Observation of staff nurses activities.
Patient management, operation management human resource management;
Patient care classification, standards of nursing Practice in Hospital and
Community setting.
*whenever possible, collection of data possible, collection of data relevant to
research proposal made in N105.
Second Week; Focus: Management process (a group of Home-care
ambulatory patients.)

Third Week: Focus Leadership/ Communication/Decision making (a group of
long-term/chronic patients)
Fourth Week: Focus Discharge planning/Health Teaching ( a group of Home
care/ ambulatory patient)
Fifth Week: focus in service Training (Intermediate Care patients)

Sixth Week: Focus ethico-legal, socio cultural problems nurses encounter in


patient care (mis-patient)
COMMUNITY
Health care delivery system/ Health Goals & policies, Impact of health
programs; PHC strategies; Health information System; Physical set-up
Observation of patients who consults at center; the activities of the nurse,
her function specifically her triage function.
Second week: Community diagnosis (field/home violet) Health status profile
