Facing Your Fear - October 18

MONDAY: Exodus 33:12-23 Trusting the leader
REFLECTION: God is calling Moses to do what God says. Moses hesitates and
debates. He even abdicates for a moment, saying, These are your people. How do
you relate to Moses? How do you relate to God as a leader, parent, etc..?
PRAYER: Increase my trust in you such that I move to act when you call me forth.
TUESDAY: Exodus 33:12-23 Follow the leader
REFLECTION: Uncertainty! The need to know every detail before we walk out in
faith, well, is not faith. Dont get me wrong, sometimes we have information that
leads to a calculated action. Other times, we dont. The difference is whether we
follow the leader who goes ahead of us and knows the way. We could see this as an
adventure, a faithful exploration, instead of a planned to death vacation.
ACTION: Read Hebrews 11 (the faith chapter).
WEDNESDAY: Exodus 33:12-23 Hidden in the cleft
REFLECTION: Ever feel like God protected you from someone or something? While
facing those things we fear, God protects us. Does that mean we wont fail? No. But
even in failure, we dont fall far from Gods grip.
ACTION: What will you do, knowing that God will protect you?
THURSDAY: Acts 2:38-47 Making a change
REFLECTION: A call to change ones paradigm is hard to hear, even if that paradigm
has not yielded positivity or prosperity in health, peace, wisdom, etc.
PRAYER: Where are you calling me to make a change or align my thoughts more
seamlessly with yours?

Scripture: Exodus 33:12-23

Moses said to the Lord, See, You say to me, Lead this people forward, but You
have not made known to me whom You will send with me. Further, You have said,
I have singled you out by name, and you have, indeed, gained My favor. Now, if I
have truly gained Your favor, pray let me know Your ways, that I may know You and
continue in Your favor. Consider, too, that this nation is Your people. And He said,
I will go in the lead and will lighten your burden. And he said to Him, Unless
You go in the lead, do not make us leave this place. For how shall it be known
that Your people have gained Your favor unless You go with us, so that we may be
distinguished, Your people and I, from every people on the face of the earth?
And the Lord said to Moses, I will also do this thing that you have asked; for you
have truly gained My favor and I have singled you out by name. He said, Oh, let
me behold Your Presence! And He answered, I will make all My goodness pass
before you, and I will proclaim before you the name Lord, and the grace that I
grant and the compassion that I show. But, He said, you cannot see My face, for
man may not see Me and live. And the Lord said, See, there is a place near Me.
Station yourself on the rock and, as My Presence passes by, I will put you in a cleft
of the rock and shield you with My hand until I have passed by. Then I will take My
hand away and you will see My back; but My face must not be seen.

My Notes:

FRIDAY: Acts 2:38-47 Be baptized

REFLECTION: To become Christian is to receive a new identity...Baptism celebrates
becoming that new person. That is why the churchs ritual begins with putting off
the old, renouncing sin and the evil powers of the world, and pledging our loyalty
to Christ. Read more: http://www.umc.org/what-we-believe/baptism
PRAYER: As we look to Sunday, when we will welcome new people into the life of
the church, we pray for those considering baptism. Holy Spirit, move and have your
way, speaking and prompting them as you see fit.
SATURDAY: Acts 2:38-47 Deep and wide
REFLECTION: God added to the church daily. Thousands were baptized and began
living as the first church sharing things in common, listening to the apostles and
eating a meal. Simply put, the first church grew deep in faith and wide in numbers.
PRAYER: May your church grow deep and wide, and may you use me to support its
efforts.
