SAT Regular Course Outline

Ivy Globals Regular Course provides a solid overview of the content and most effective strategies for all
three sections of the exam (Reading, Writing, and Math). A mixture of in-class practice exercises and
take-home assignments are provided to reinforce new concepts and practice under timed conditions. In
order to track progress, students take a shortened SAT exam on the first day of class and a full-length
practice test on the last day of class.

Total class time: 32 hours


Class schedule: 4-hour classes, weekly on Saturdays or Sundays during the academic year, or
four days a week (Monday-Thursday) for two weeks during the summer
Approximate homework time: 2-3 hours per day (with optional extra homework)

Course Format
Ivy Globals SAT courses are designed to provide a balance of guided instruction, collaborative
discussion, small group and teamwork, and realistic practice opportunities. Students work both
collaboratively and individually as they apply new strategies, with the instructor serving as an
approachable mentor. As the course progresses, there are increasing opportunities to practice applying
skills in realistic test conditions.
Each class includes:

Engaging lecture, to introduce strategy and new content


Collaborative problem-solving, to tackle difficult problems early in the course
Realistic mock test-taking, to ensure that students are well prepared for true test conditions
Team-based competition, to make vocabulary memorization a little less tedious!

Students receive the following evaluations and feedback:

A 2-hour initial diagnostic test: a shortened version of an official SAT exam


A 4-hour final diagnostic test: a full-length official SAT exam
Daily vocabulary quizzing, in the form of a written quiz or team-based competition
Thorough analysis and grading of a minimum of 5 essays
Regular math and grammar quizzes
Individual final reports to help students plan their studying after the end of the course

Course Syllabus
Ivy Globals Regular Course provides a thorough review of both the content and most effective
strategies for all three sections of the SAT (Reading, Writing, and Math).

Week One/Days 1-4

Initial diagnostic exam (shortened 2-hour SAT test): assessment of individual strengths,
weaknesses, and goals
Introduction to the Reading section: strategies for sentence completion and passage reading,
introduction to vocabulary building
Introduction to the Math section: strategies for multiple-choice and grid-in questions
Introduction to the Writing section: strategies for grammar multiple-choice questions, essay
structure, introduction to the Bank of Examples method for essay preparation
Comprehensive SAT grammar review
Comprehensive SAT math review of arithmetic and algebra

Week Two/Days 5-8

Vocabulary building through daily quizzes


In-depth discussion of SAT essay structure and the Bank of Examples
Comprehensive SAT math review of geometry and data analysis
Group and individual exercises to practice Reading, Writing, and Math skills
Final review of strategy and content for specific topics, as determined by the needs of the class
Team-based competition and games to review and prepare for final diagnostic exam
Final diagnostic exam (full-length 4-hour SAT test): assessment of progress through the course
and recommended strategies for further study

Ivy Global uses only the best explanatory texts, chosen from the full range of SAT materials available.
Each student receives the following course materials:

Ivy Globals SAT Study Guide, a handbook of strategies, reference material, and vocabulary lists
The College Boards Official SAT Study Guide, with 10 real practice tests
Barrons SAT (26th Edition), with thorough math and grammar review as well as 5 practice tests
