MAGAZINE ANALYSIS - KERRANG

Photographic image
placed in front of
masthead. This
shows that not the
whole masthead
needs to be seen in
order for the audience
to see it. It also gives
it a dramatic look
because the artists on
the main image are
the first thing youre
drawn to.

There is a
variety of
colours used
for the cover
lines to make
certain words
or images
stand out.
The colour
yellow is used
for surrounding
the cover lines
which is a clever
technique
because it
makes it stand
out and gives
clear direction
as to where the
audience should
be drawn to first.
The clothing is a
basic style
(jeans, t shirt)
that the target
audience would
most likely wear
themselves.
This means that
the audience
can relate to
them as artists
as well as the
magazine as it
gives a good
representation
of the bands
appearance.

Fonts used is sans

serif which suggest
they are going for a
more modern style
approach to the
magazine and also
suggests the music
artists featured are of
modern style rock.
The image on the
front is related to the
main story featured
inside and relates to
what type of artists,
the audiences
interests are. Fans on
YOU ME AT SIX will
be drawn into reading
the magazine.
Their poses are them all standing
straight facing the audience with a
direct gaze. The impression it
creates is that they are looking at
the audience of the magazine which
captivates the audiences and makes
them want to read the story inside.

Lots of puffs to make

the audience more
inclined to read- free
stickers is one
example. This
obviously appears to
the younger
generation.

The names of artists/bands

are highlighted and are in
bold writing in order to
capture the gaze of the
audience.

Main cover line use

bold text to draw
attention and the
name of the band is
highlighted to show
its importance to the
reader.

The current publisher is

Bauer Media Group.
They also are the
publisher of Q music
magazine.

Text is of a decent
size therefore it is
able to read from a
good distance which
is what the intended
audience would look
for because they
wouldnt want to
spend lots of time
reading the front
cover.

The image is
placed to the left
side of the
contents page
while the text is
placed on the
right. Which is a
very simple
layout for the
audience,
therefore making
it easier to read.

Yellow is used to
highlight the
different sections
of the magazine.

Modern text is
used (sans serif)
because the
magazine is about
modern rock.
Highlighted the
titles of each
section of the
magazine to give
clear direction to
the audiences
interests.

The image
represents the
type of audience
interested in the
magazine.
The older
generation is
not addressed
because its a
modern style
magazine with
features that
would only
interest
younger
generation due
to the style of
bands featured
in the
magazine.

The person in the

image is facing the
crowd which gives
the impression
that this person is
very popular and
also because he
isnt facing the
camera it can draw
the reader in
because they want
to find out who
that person is.
Same style is continued on the double page: spread
