Climate Change is a long term shift in the statistics of the weather including its averages. It can

be a change in the average weather or a change in the distribution of weather events around an average

(for example, greater or fewer extreme weather events). Climate change may be limited to a specific

region, or may occur across the whole Earth. It can be caused by recurring, often cyclical climate patterns.

In recent usage, especially in the context of environmental policy, climate change usually refers to

changes in modern climate. It may be qualified as anthropogenicclimate change, more generally known as

"global warming´ (http://www.ecy.wa.gov). In wrapping up, climate Change is a long term shift in the

statistics of the weather including its averages.

Over 100 year ago, people worldwide began burning more coal and oil for homes, factories, and

transportation. Burning these fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the

atmosphere. These added greenhouse gases have caused Earth to warm more quickly. Because of this sea

level is rising. Heavier rainfall cause flooding in many regions. Warmer temperatures have led to more

intense rainfall events on some areas. This can cause flooding. Extreme drought is increasing. Higher

temperatures cause a higher rate of evaporation and more droughts in some areas of the world. Warmer

temperatures affect human health. There have been more deaths due to heat waves and more allergy

attacks as the pollen season grows (http://www.nws.noaa.gov). Hence, these are the many effects of

climate change today.

The Green House Effect is a series of events in which aids the Earth in becoming warmer.

According to Thomas C. Schelling, ³The earth is bathed in sunlight, some of it reflected back into space
and some absorbed.´ With that said, if the absorption can't correlate with the radiation in space, the earth

will continue to get warmer until the radiation correlates with the sunlight that's coming in. Another detail

is, gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and the chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) help make

the earth produce more sunlight and make it warmer.(Greenhouse Effect by Thomas C.

Schelling;http://www.econlib.org) In summary, the Green House Effect is a series of events in which aids

the Earth in becoming warmer.

The Green House Effect brings different results to the earth. I say this because when this happens

the temperatures on land and the ocean increase. Another outcome is, areas such as the North and South

Poles (Arctic and Antarctic) melt. In addition, both ocean currents and weather patterns change. With that

in mind, there are high sea level occurances.(http://www.global-greenhouse-warming.com/effect-green-

house.html) As one can see, the Green House Effect brings different results to the earth.

Which Container Will prove to be Effective in Becoming Warmer?

We can predict that the plastic container with the plastic around it will be warmer than the

plastic container without the plastic around it.

ñ§ Clock/Watch

ñ§ Two identical plastic containers/jars

ñ§ 10 ice cubes

ñ§ Two Thermometers

ñ§ Copy of observation Worksheet

ñ§ Sunlight/Lamp

ñ§ Take two identical plastic containers each containing 2 cups of cold water.

ñ§ Add 5 ice cubes to each container.

ñ§ Wrap one in a plastic (This is the greenhouse container).

ñ§ Measure the temperature of the water in each container.

Leave both containers in the sun/Lamp Light for15 minutes.

ñ§ Complete the observation worksheet as you complete two trials.

ñ§ Every five minutes, record the readings of both thermometers without disturbing them.

! The constants in this experiment are the identical containers, same amount of time in the

sun, same amount of ice cubes, & the same amount of water.

The control is the container without the plastic bag.

" The dependent variable is the temperature of each container after a half an hour.

We learned many things in conducting this experiment. The experiment was a very fun and

unique however, it was very complicated. Being that neither family would compromise, we had to work

our way into actually completing the experiment. Every time we made an attempt a setback occurred.

Doing this experiment has taught us how difficult working with others really is & how much of an effort

needed to make it work. In the experiment, we found out that our hypothesis was correct. Ý

For our science project we chose to do the Green House Effect which is a series of events in which aids

the Earth in becoming warmer. The greenhouse effect causes trouble by raising the temperature of the

planet. The actual rise is not very much, but the Earth¶s ecosystem is very fragile, and small changes can

have large effects. So Mangie and I wanted to see how it works so we created our version of the Green

House Effect. In our experiment we were testing which container would contain more heat if both

containers include 2 cups of cold water, 5 cubes of ice and the same amount of sunlight provided by a

lamp. The only difference is that one of these containers will have a plastic bag this container is the Green

House Effect. We predict that this container will be hotter than the one without the plastic. When we did

the experiment after 30 minutes the highest temperature the Greenhouse container was

 degrees & the Non-Greenhouse container¶s highest temperature was 62 degrees .

So that supported our hypothesis that the Green House Effect will be hotter than the Non Green

House Effect.
