3.

Practice: Write and give your own instructions. There are many ways to give directions.
One common way to give directions is to give the name of the street and then some
building nearby.

Practice the following conversation with a partner using the substitutions in the box (pair
work):
A: Do you know where I can get a cup of coffee?
B: Sure. You could try the Starry Caf.
A: Wheres that? / How can I get there?
B: Its on 2nd Avenue in front of the pharmacy.
A: Thanks.
B: No problem

get some boots

get some cat food
buy some milk
buy some pants

get some aspirins

watch a movie
buy a book
mail a letter

Choose 2 stores or buildings from the map and write in a word document instructions to
describe the location for each of them. Find a photo or a picture of the building you have
chosen in the internet and paste it on the document.

4. Outcome: Reading instructions and guessing the location.

In groups of four, read the instructions you have previously written to the rest of the group
and let your classmates guess the exact location you have chosen. Every time you guess a
location you get one point. The person who has more points at the end wins.
