MODERN HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATIONS

Producing run-of-the-river hydroelectricity via sub-surface turbine

The following exposition presents a new, revolutionary electricity generation process.
With this completely new and unique technological invention, electricity generation
canbe solved in an environmentally friendly fashion, utilizing almost all the rivers of
theworld.
Utilizing the enormous energy of river water to produce electricity is currently only
possible by thoroughly altering the environment, creating monumental dams and
massive reservoirs. In the stead of current methods, modern hydroelectric power
stations could be raised much cheaper, and using an extremely environmentally
friendly process. With this new technology, rivers NEED NOT be obstructed by
dams, neither is the creation of enormous reservoirs necessary for the continuous and
economical operation of modern hydroelectric power stations.
Construction of the commonly used dams and large reservoirs results in the flooded
area becoming definitively unusable for agricultural, industrial or any societal
purposes. This drastic method gives rise to immeasurable and irreversible damage in
the natural environment. The construction of hydroelectric power stations, which
constitute a realistic alternative, is required and achievable in place of all types of
environmentally damaging, dangerous and toxic power stations. The new process is
easily applicable to river water found in excessive amounts worldwide.
Even in the case of entirely unutilized, smaller rivers, the generation of invaluable
amount of electricity becomes possible. The essence of this new technology is the
entirely hidden, sub-surface deployed turbine system. Environmentally friendly
utilization of energy is possible via the fully new, patented, custom designed turbines.
The specially designed current-transforming turbines utilize the enormous current
energy of rivers in the most optimal fashion below surface level, on the bottom of the
riverbed, secured to solid reinforced concrete base, without harmful alteration of the
environment.
Modern turbines convert the rivers current energy into uniform rotational energy by
exerting significant torque. We have developed two types of turbines, each for the
optimal usage of different yields of water. Both types are patented as our own,
independently developed system.
The first designed type is a cylindrical fluid flow converter of rigid structure with
profiled flow deflectors built on a horizontal axis. Attached are a flow collector and a
ballast unit built in with the concentrating diffuser. This design is applicable for use
between 20 100 m3/sec yield of water. The other type (also patented) is a vertical
axis turbine improved with modules formed from radial cells. This design utilizes the
current energy of a yield larger than 100 m3/sec, up to 500 m3/sec. The torque
produced by the turbines is passed to a closed building constructed on the waterside.

The equipment necessary for the electricity generating system is placed in these
waterside buildings:
- the slow speed generators with the high-torque, hydraulic motors, transformers,
frequency-synchronizers, voltage regulators, etc. along with the attached electronic
auxiliaries and the computer controlled administration unit.
- Turbines placed at the appropriate depth, continuously run, are operable all year
long,
The operation and electricity generation of the power station is not affected by ice,
however severe, and the power station is unaffected even by ice covering the entire
surface of the river.
The sub-surface turbines are made with totally noncorrosive stainless steel.
Accordingly, they require no maintenance or regular upkeep. The long term
underwater operation results in no damage whatsoever in the equipment. Thus their
operation is indefinitely guaranteed, foolproof, without malfunction or repairs.
On the other hand, every other type of power station deteriorates after a set time
and becomes USELESS thereafter. Due to the very low speed operation, purposefully
selected, special material of the technological structure, and complete security, the
expected lifetime of these sub-surface turbine power stations is virtually limitless.

The continuous operation of these sub-surface power stations DOES NOT REQUIRE
the use of professionally trained personnel. A computer management system
ensures the fully automatic operation of the equipment.
The operation of thermal or nuclear power stations without several
hundred professionally trained personnel is INCONCEIVABLE.(!)
There EXISTS a realistic, secure and SAFE alternative to nuclear power.(!)

Modern sub-surface power stations provide unparalleled favourable parameters in

every respect over the currently used systems. They do not impair, do not obstruct and
do not alter the river currents or the rivers wildlife. Their construction requires less
time and money by magnitudes. The occupied space of a sub-surface power station is
also a fraction of the extent of reservoirs. Absolutely NO HARMFUL BY-PRODUCT IS
RELEASED, not even the most well-known harmful and dangerous carbon-dioxide
(CO2), which causes the greenhouse effect in Earths atmosphere and weather.
