University of Hebei,Baoding 071001,Hebei,China;2College of Resource and

In a greenhouse experiment, white laminating bags were applied to bag the tomato
cultivar 'Baoluota' fruits, with the absorption spectra and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters
of the fruits measured by optical spectrometer and Mini-Imaging-Pam after different bagging
time, aimed to investigate the effects of bagging on the light use efficiency of photosystem
of the fruits. In the first 20 days of bagging,no significant effects of bagging were observed on
the chlorophyll a(Chl a) content and the maximum quantum yield of PS(Fv/Fm) of the
fruits, but the relative absorption coefficient(A670/780) and the effective quantum yield of PS
(Y) were reduced, compared with the control. In this period, the regulatory energy
dissipation of PS played an important role. After then, the Chl a and Chl b contents of
bagged fruits decreased markedly, but the Fv/Fm,Y,and A670/780 had no significant
differences with the control. On the 40th day of bagging, the Chl a and Chl b contents of
bagged fruits decreased by 35.2% and 52.8%,but the Fv/Fm and Y increased by 24.5% and
35.4%,respectively,suggesting that at this time, the PS of bagged tomato fruits had a higher
light use efficiency, which provided energy foundation for the earlier ripening of the bagged
fruits via further reducing the quantum yield of non-regulatory energy dissipation(YNO).

This paper studied the effects of bagging during the period from young fruit formation to
fruit coloration on the contents of pigment, sugar and endogenous hormone in Cara Cara
orange flesh. The results showed that bagging could significantly increase the lycopene and
beta-carotene contents of matured fruit, but didnt have any effects on its GA and ABA
contents. The GA content decreased rapidly during fruit-expanding period, and maintained at a

lower level in the period from fruit coloration to maturing. The ABA content reached the
maximum when the bag was removed, decreased rapidly then, and there was a small peak
before fruit maturation.Glucose and fructose contents were decreased, while sucrose content
was increased significantly. No significant change was observed in total sugar content.

Using eggplant(Solanum melongena L.)'JingQie20' as test material, this paper studied the
effects for pesticide residues, yield and quality of eggplant by using bagging. The results
showed that:Bagging can significantly reduce the pesticide residue, increase production and
improve the exterior quality such as the appearance of eggplant;bagging can also markedly
reduce the hardness and cellulose content of eggplant;bagged fruit doesn't had significant
difference from the one without bagging in data, such as the percentage of fertile

fruit,commodity rate,moisture content,soluble sugar,vitamin C,protein and vitamin P

content. The results also showed that different colors of the bags affect the anthocyanin
content of eggplant. The eggplant with purple polyethylene plastic film had similar
anthocyanin content with the one without bagging, while others had remarkably lower
content.Consequently, the purple polyethylene plastic film was proposed to be used as
bagging material for eggplant.

Taking overwintering tomato variety L402 as test material, this paper studied the
effects of bagging with different texture bags on its fruit enlarging and quality, and the
microenvironment within the bags. The results showed that bagging could change the
microenvironment of fruit development, promote fruit maturing in advance, and improve fruit
mass and quality. The light intensity and humidity in parchment bag were at the intermediate
of those in plastic and no-spinning cloth bags, and the temperature was the highest among all
treatments, except that it was lower than that in plastic bag at forenoon. The fruit enlarging
rate in parchment bag was also the highest, and the single fruit mass increased by 15.34%,
compared with the control. However, the fruit soluble solid, soluble sugar, and vitamine C
contents and the sugar/acid ratio in all bagging treatments were lower than those of the
control, suggesting that bagging debased the nutritive quality and the tastiness of tomato fruit.
Due to the fact that bagging prevented the direct contact of fruit with pesticides, the fruit
chlorpyrifos and betacypermethrin contents in parchment and plastic bags were lower than
the control, except that the chlorpyrifos content in no-spinning cloth bag was higher.

The effects of bagging on the quality of Cuiguan and Hosui pear fruits were studied. The
results were showed as follows: the visual quality of fruits was significantly improved by
bagging, and bagged fruits, with less rust and invisible dots, became brighter and more
beautiful than non-bagged ones. However, the bagged fruits had lower soluble solids and
stone cell content, and higher titratable acid and water content than non-bagged fruits. The
residues of chlorpyrifos, carbendazim and cyhalothrin in fruits were also greatly reduced by
bagging. The effects of bagging on fruit quality varied with the types of fruit bag.Cuiguan
fruits covered with Haoguo bags(made in Taiwan, with two layers of paper) had more
beautiful surface, higher soluble solids and lower acid content than those bagged with Jiatian
bags(made in Taiwan, with one layer of paper) and common bags(made in Jiangsu, with two
layers of paper),showing that Haoguo bag was the best one for covering Cuiguan pears.Hosui
fruits covered with Jiatian bags had the most soluble solids, the least acid and moderate visual
quality in the bagged fruits, indicating that Jiatian bags was the best fruit bags for covering

As is well known, it has become a more and more challenging technical demand to
reduce the toxic pesticide residue with the fruit and vegetable on sale today. However, it is
still essential and even inevitable to spray chemical pesticide to control the damage to be
brought about by natural pests or likely diseases to their healthy growth. Traditional practice
that has been done to the growing apples and pears is to put a bag on them. In this article, we
have analyzed residues of fenvalerate, cypermethrin and chlorothalonil by GC (Gas
Chromatograph) with ECD, and carbendazim by HPLC (High Pressure Liquid
Chromatograph). We have also investigated and analyzed the effects of putting on a bag to
the growing tomato and cucumber. The results of our experiments indicate that bagging helps
to reduce the pesticide residue in tomato and cucumber fruits, respectively, by 84.5%-100%
and 12.5%-100% as compared with no bagging, which is far over the state standards of the
residue limits for pesticides in food stuff. Furthermore, we have made a detailed comparison
of the effects of different bagging methods, such as the use of thick parchment paper, plastic
bags and some other kinds of bags, the best among whom is parchment paper, followed by
plastic and ordinary paper bags. Thus, our experiments help to make it feasible to reduce
pesticide residue for tomato and cucumber fruits by using bagging, which is likely to become
a reference technique in protecting the healthy growth of vegetable and fruit in the future.

Mango cv.Zill was used as material for studying the effects of different bagging material
on fruit appearance, skin pigments, skin color and luster and fruit internal quality. Results
showed that the fruit skin bagged with single white bags displayed significantly lower
contents of chlorophylls and carotenoids, while had significantly higher levels of
anthocyanins and flavonoids than those of other treatments, and also showed higher skin
lightness, chroma and hue angle than those of other treatments. All these changes after single
white bagging resulted in the purple-red skin at green maturity stage and pink at full maturity
stage.Single white layer bagging tended to produce fruit with best internal quality, which had

highest contents of vitamin C,titratable acidity, soluble solids, sucrose, glucose and

fructose.When fruits bagged with yellow/black double-layer bags,the skin contained
significantly lower levels of chlorophylls, carotenoids, anthocyanins and flavonoids than those
of other treatments.Though skin lightness and chroma were remarkable higher, hue angle was
significantly lower than those of other treatments.Therefore,yellow/black double layer
bagging tended to produce fruit with light yellow skin color at green maturity stage and
orange-yellow skin at full maturity stage and also lower internal quality fruits.Single white
