COURSE OBJECTIVES
Get an overview of language studies and its various aspects and subfields
Get insights on the factors that affect and influence languages and language use, and vice versa
Look at some language problems in the Philippines and propose possible solutions for them
Develop a critical eye/ear for language
Relate language studies to ones field and everyday life

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Exams

70% (Exam 1, 2, 3)

Others 30% (class activities, group activities, language journal, etc.)

CLASS RULES
Class starts 10 minutes past 1000 and ends 10 minutes before 1130. Coming in after the class starts
will be marked late. Three late marks are equivalent to an absence.
Only 6 absences are allowed by the University. A student who incur more than 6 absences will
be given a failing grade unless s/he officially drops the course.
Missed class activities and group activities due to tardiness or absence will be equivalent to zero.
Make-up exams for missed ones will be given only upon presentation of a medical certificate
from the University Health Service or a formal excuse letter stating an acceptable reason in
detail.
Devote your 1000-1130 of Wednesdays and Fridays to Lingg 1 for the First Semester 2015-2016. Do
not work on assignments for other classes or activities for your student organization, etc.
