The consumption of alcoholic beverages (or liquor) is not wise for a Bible believing Christian because…

• My employer doesn’t let me drink on the job for a reason…I wouldn’t do as good a job as I should. shou It would
cloud my judgment (Prov. 31:5). 1 Corinthians 15:58 says we should ALWAYS be abounding in the WORK of the
Lord. Hmmm…that about does it for me but I will go on anyway.
• We are told that straight is the gate and narrow is the way which leads to life (Matt. 7:14). Would you want to
mess with alcohol on a narrow, straight path along the edge of a cliff just to be social? No wise person would
“socially
socially drink” while walking down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon on the 3 to 4 foot narrow path that is
provided. It just wouldn’t be safe and it certainly isn’t WISE!! (note: Officers of the Law ask people to walk a
straight line as a test for being sober
sober…very interesting).
• Why make provision for the flesh to possibly take over (R (Rom. 13:14)?
• Kings and princes were forbidden to drink wine or strong drink because it would pervert their judgment (Prov.
31:4-5). We are Kings in the NT (note: note: princes were children of the King…wewe are the King of kings children)
childre and
therefore we shouldn’t drink (Rev. 1:6). NT believers are going to judge the world (see 1 Cor. 6:2) and are
commanded to judge righteous judgments even now (John 7:24)! We must heed Proverbs warning (31:4-5). (31:4
• We should be Holy (1 Peter 1:16, 2 Tim. 2:21) 2:21)!
• How does drinking alcohol of any kind help to share the gospel?? How is it expedient? (1 Cor. 6:12, 1 Cor. 10:23)
• What is right with it? (Rom. 14:23)
• Why not say curse rse words that aren’t specifically wrong and not mentioned in the Bible so as to not offend those
who do use those certain curse words words?
• It is a mocker and it puts the user in a position to be deceived which is not wise. (Prov. 20:1)2
• On a related note, the “fruit of the vine” is connected with drunkenness, nakedness, and immorality (i.e. bad
decisions and choices followed after partaking of this “fruit of the vine”). (Gen. 3:7; 9:20-22;
9:20 19:30-35)
• Jesus is the true Vine, He is good.. TThat means there is a false
alse vine, which must be evil! (John 15, Deut. 32:31-33)
32:31
• It is very likely that the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was a vine tree (see Num. 6:4, Ezek. 15:2, 6).
• The vine tree was forbidden to a person set-apart and consecrated to God (Num. 6:1-4, 4, 1 Cor. 6:19-20). NT
believers are to be sanctified, or “set set-apart”, for God’s use (2 Timothy 2:21).
• Aaron and the priests of the OT were not to drink wine or strong drink in the tabernacle. This was to show the
difference between holy and unclean (Lev. 10:8-10). ). We are now kings and priests in the NT (Rev. 1:6) and our
body is God’s Temple (1 Cor. 6:19-20 20).
• The fruit of the vine is a “type” of blood (Mt. 26:27
26:27-29)
29) and the consumption of blood is forbidden all
throughout scripture (Gen. 9:4 – before the Law Law, Lev. 17:10 – after the Law,, Acts 15:20 – after Christ died to
fulfill the Law).
• The Bible commands ds us not just to abstain from evil, but to abstain from all appearance of evil (1 Thess. 5:22).
Even lost people recognize the evils associated with drinking alcohol and so does the medical community.
• Lastly, how many people have been saved today because a Christian was willing to socially drink with those in
the world who don’t know any better? I have never heard a testimony like that and I don’t suspect I ever will.

Note: “Lifestyle” evangelism encourages social drinking so as to not offend those you are “trying to reach”.
Instead, give them the Law (i.e. the 10 Commandments, Psalm 19:7) to prepare the soil of their heart to receive the
good news (Gal. 3:24) because it’s the way of the Master (see Mark 10:17
10:17-24)!

Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise ~ Proverbs 20:1.

Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart. ~ Hosea 4:11

Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted. ~ Proverbs 31:5
