CHAPTER 1
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Introduction
Biogas

typically refers to a gas produced by the breakdown of

organic matter in the absence of oxygen. It is a renewable energy source, like

solar and wind energy. Furthermore, biogas can be produced from regionally
available raw materials and recycled waste and is environmentally friendly and
carbon dioxide neutral. Biogas is produced by the anaerobic digestion or
fermentation of biodegradable materials such as manure, sewage, municipal
waste, green waste, plant material, and crops. Biogas can be used as a fuel in
any country for any heating purpose. It can also be used in anaerobic
digesters where it is typically used in a gas engine to convert the energy in the
gas into electricity and heat.
The main purpose of this product is to help the people who live in rural
area. It provides non-polluting and renewable source of energy. Produces
enriched organic manure, which can supplement or even replace chemical
fertilizer. It is also efficient way of energy conversion. Give an alternative
source of electricity. And this will help to lessen the electric consumption. But,
biogas contains some gases as impurities, which are corrosive to the metal
parts of internal combustion engine.

In modern times, the first sewage plant was built in Bombay in 1859; an
idea that was brought to the UK in 1895, when the gas produced was used to
light street lamps. The Proponent aiming to introduce the conversion of biogas
to electricity with the use of cheaper and effective device which can generate
electricity from heat, this is called as thermoelectric generator which convert
heat directly into electrical energy, using a phenomenon called the Seebeck
effect (a form of thermoelectric effect). The proponent uses this as alternative
way because most of the common biogas plant uses a big and expensive
generator which is not really suitable and affordable to use.

The proponents will put up the business at Vicmar Plaza P. Burgos St.,
Batangas City, Batangas.

Definition of Terms
The following definitions of terms are defined conceptually and
operationally:
Biodegradable- capable of being decomposed by bacteria or other
living organisms
Biogas- typically refers to a mixture of different gases produced by the
breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen.
Carbon

Dioxide

(CO2)

Colorless,

odorless,

non-combustible

greenhouse-gas that contributes to global warming.

Electricity- a form of energy resulting from the existence of charged
particles (such as electrons or protons), either statically as an accumulation of
charge or dynamically as a current.
Energy- power derived from the utilization of physical or chemical
resources, especially to provide light and heat or to work machines.
Generator- is a rotating machine that convert mechanical energy to
electrical energy.
Green plants- produce carbon dioxide and water as respiratory
products. In green plants, the carbon dioxide released during respiration gets
utilized during photosynthesis. Oxygen is a by product generated during
photosynthesis, and exits through stomata, root cell walls, and other routes.

Heat transfer- describes the exchange of thermal energy between

physical systems depending on the temperature and pressure by dissipating.
Manure- excrement, especially of animals, or other refuse used as
fertilizer.
Negative charge - having a surplus of electrons; having a lower electric
potential.
Renewable Energy- energy from a source that is not depleted when
used, such as wind or solar power.
Thermoelectric effect- is the direct conversion of temperature
differences to electric voltage and vice versa. It creates voltage when there is
a different temperature on each side.
Thermoelectric generator- devices that convert heat (temperature
differences) directly into electrical energy, using a phenomenon called the
Seebeck effect (a form of thermoelectric effect).
Waste- is any substance which is discarded after primary use, or it is
worthless, defective and of no use.
