ABSTRACT:

v It is a technology to interact with

remotely controlled devices.
v A single remote can control many
devices.
v It mainly concentrates on HAN.

SEMINOR TITLE: ZIGBEE TECHNOLOGY DATE:19-3-2010

ZIGBEE:
Ø It is a HAN designed specifically to
replace the proliferation of individual
remote controls.
Ø It is introduced by OSI reference model
in several layers.
Ø The layers are physical layer, MAC layer
and network layer.

FRAME STRUCTURE:

SEMINOR TITLE: ZIGBEE TECHNOLOGY DATE:19-3-2010

Frame Structure:
q It provides a payload of up to 104 bytes.
q Frame check sequence ensure that
packets are received with out error.
q Frame structure improves the reliability
in difficult conditions.
q It uses CRC- 16 for verifying frame
sequence.

SEMINOR TITLE: ZIGBEE TECHNOLOGY DATE:19-3-2010

Frame Structure:
(contd)
q It provides an ACK (acknowledgement) frame.
q MAC command frame provides the mechanism
for remote control and configuration of client
nodes.
q MAC is used to configure the individual frames.
q Beacon frame wake up the client devices which
listen for their address and go back to sleep if they
don’t receive it.

Device Types:

ü Zig bee coordinator: It forms the root

of the network and store the information
about the network.
ü Zig bee router: It acts as a intermediate
and pass data from other devices.
ü Zig bee end device: It provides
functionality to talk to its parent node.

Power saving:

§ Zig bee networks are designed to

conserve the power of slave nodes.
§ Slave device is in deep sleep mode and
wakes up only for a fraction of seconds.
§ It takes 15ms for transition from sleep
mode to data transition.

Security:

v Access control
v Data encryption through symmetric
key.
v Frame integrity
v Sequential freshness to reject data
frames that have been replayed.

Network:
Ø It associates devices using the network
coordinator.
Ø It is responsible to start a new network
and assigning address to newly associated
devices.
Ø It supports multiple network topologies
like star, tree and mesh etc.

General operation frame work:
ü It is a layer between several
applications.
ü It consists of complete information
about the devices.
ü It specifies methods, events and data
formats.
ü It requires less than 32kb of memory.

Applications:
It is used in several applications like
v Industrial purposes
v Finger print keypad lock
v Motion and heat sensing solar flood
light
v Wire less personal area net working

SEMINOR TITLE: ZIGBEE TECHNOLOGY DATE:19-3-2010

Conclusion:
Ø It is an underlying communication
technology.
Ø It provides data reliability, long battery
life and lower system costs through flexible
networking.
Ø It provides network security and profile
specifications.
