TheNTronSwitchesthatareNViewcapablegenerateaperiodicmulticastEthernetframefor
everyport.ThisframeisthenreceivedanddisplayedbytheNViewdiagnosticmonitor
software.

TheNViewDiagnosticMonitorisaWindowsprogramthat:
canbeusedtomonitordiagnosticdatafromtheswitch,and/or
canlaunchNViewfromabatchfile,andhaveitgeneratealistofalltheswitchaliases
thatitfoundonlineandoutputthatinformationtoatextfile.

Installing NView Diagnostic Monitor Software

MinimumSystemRequirements:
WindowsXPwithServicePack3(32/64Bit),Windows7(32/64Bit)orWindows8(32/64Bit)
withAdministratorPrivileges.The.NETFrameworkversion3.5willalsoberequired.Newer
versionsof.NETarenotbackwardscompatibleandwillnotprovidewhatisneededforNView.

1. InserttheNTronProductCDintoyourCD/DVDdrive.
2. Intheeventthemainindexpageisnotdisplayedautomatically,youmayloadthepage
bybrowsingtotherootfolderoftheCD/DVDdriveandDoubleClickingonthe
index.htmlfile.
3. ClickontheheadinglabeledSOFTWAREthenexpandtheNViewfolder.
4. DoubleClickonthesetupexecutablefiletobeginthesoftwareinstallationprocess.
Notesomewebbrowsersmayrequireyoutosavealocalcopytoyoursystembefore
runningthesetupexecutable.
5. Finishthesetupbyfollowingtheonscreenprompts.

Detecting NTron Switches

StartbyopeningtheNViewDiagnosticMonitorapplication.Theshortcutcanbefoundhere:
Start>Programs>NTron>NView

Ascreensimilartothefollowingshouldappear:

IftheNetworkAdapterthatisdisplayedbydefaultisnottheadaptertowhichtheswitchesof
interestareconnected,thenselectthecorrectadapter.

Mapping Switches

Themappingofaswitchisrequiredtoaccessanyinformationaboutthatswitch.Tomapa
switch,selecttheswitchofinterestintheCurrentSwitcheswindow,anddefinetheswitch
modelfromtheconfigurationpulldowns:

SeveralNTronswitchesreporttheirmodelandconfigurationtoNView,andinthosecasesthe
switchmodelandconfigurationmayautomaticallyfillintheconfigurationvalues.These
includeall700,7000,NT24kandtheNandAversionsofseveralofthe500seriesswitches.
VerifythatthesevaluesarecorrectonbothNViewandtheswitchbeforeproceedingtomapit.
NotethattheNViewvalueswillreflecttheusersconfigurationforseveralswitchversions.

Configuration of Modular Switches with Slots

Severalswitchmodelsaremodularandhaveslotswhichcanbepopulatedwithseveralkindsof
modules.Theavailablemodularslotconfigurationpulldownsareshownbelowthemodel
nameafterselectingtheswitchmodel.Thefollowingisanexampleofwhatmaybeshown.The
numberandnameofthemoduleswillvaryandbespecifictothemodelbeingviewed.

Oncethemoduleshavebeenconfiguredorverified,youmayselecttheMapbutton.

Changing Monitor Timeout (Optional)

Ifdesired,youcanchangethetimeoutvalueofthemonitorbyselectingChangeTimeout
Valuefromthesystemmenu,whichisaccessiblebyclickingtheNViewiconlocatedinthe
upperleftcornerofthemainwindow.Thisvaluehasarangeof201500seconds.Ifaswitch
hasbecomeunreachable,afterthistimethevaluesshownonthemonitorwillbeinvalidated
(NA).Ifaswitchhasntsentdataassociatedwithaportontheswitch,allitemsassociatedwith
theportwillbeinvalidated(NA)afterthistime.Eachadaptercanhaveitsownvaluefor
monitortimeout.

Ifchanged,Save&Closemustbeselectedtosavethisvalue.

Assigning Switch Aliases (Optional)

Next,ifdesired,youcangivetheswitchanAliasNamebyhighlightingtheswitchintheright
sidewindow,typinganAliasName,andselectingtheRenamebutton:

Userscanassignswitchescustomaliasnamestocreatemeaningfulvalues.Aswitchaliascan
containupto35characters,andcannotcontainspaces,periods,orhyphens.Aswitchaliascan
haveunderscores.

ChangingtheswitchaliasinNViewdoesnotchangethenameontheswitchitself.Thischange
isonlytrackedlocally.

Hiding Ports (Optional)

Next,selecttheswitchandclickonSwitchDetails.ThePortswindowwillappear.This
allowsyoutohideunusedports,ortoassignanaliastoaport.Selecttheporttobehidden,
andclicktheHidePortcheckbox:

Ifdesired,followthedirectionsinthewindowtoassignaportalias.Aportaliascancontainup
to24characters,andcannotcontainspaces,periods,orhyphens.Aportaliascanhave
underscores.

ChangingtheportaliasinNViewdoesnotchangethenameontheswitchitself.Thischangeis
onlytrackedlocally.

Saving the Configuration

Oncetheremappinghasbeencompleted,theconfigurationmustbesavedtoallowforuseof
theconfigurationnexttimetheNViewmonitorisopened.

Afterconfiguringtheports,closethewindowsbacktotheinitial(main)window.

Export/Import Configuration Feature

NViewincludesanexport/importfeaturethatallowseasyandaccuratetransfersofswitchand
portaliasconfigurationsfromonePCtoanother.PerformanexportonasourcePC,bringthe
exportedfiletothetargetPC,andimportitthere.SelectingSave&Closewillresultinthe
switchandportaliasesfromthesourcePCbeingavailableonthetargetPC.

Exporting the Configuration

Afterconfiguringallswitchesandports,theconfigurationmustbesavedbeforeitisclosed.
SelectSave&Closeatthemainwindow.ReopenNViewandselectExportonthemainN
View.Theexportlocationdefaultstotheusersapplicationdatafolder,thoughthatcanbe
changed.

Importing the Configuration

SelectImportonthemainNViewscreenandlocatethefiletobeimported.Afterselecting
thefileandpressingOpen,thefollowingwillbedisplayed:

SelectoneNICineachwindowtoassignwhichLANthemappedandaliasedswitchesare
comingfrom(onsourcePC)andgoingto(ontargetPC).

TheimportwillappendtheimportedswitchestothosepreviouslymappedtothatNIC.Note
thatifthesameswitch(sameuniqueMAC)wasalreadymappedandisalsomappedonthe
importfile,itwillberemappedbasedupontheimportfile.

Oncetheremappinghasbeencompleted,selectSave&Closetosavetheconfiguration.

Diagnostic Monitoring

Onceaswitchhasbeenmapped,itcanbemonitored.Monitoringallowstheusertoreview
dataspecifictotheswitchanditsports.Ifaswitchbecomesunreachable,allvaluesassociated
withthatswitchareinvalidated(NA)afterauserdefinabletimeoutperiod.Ifaswitchdoesnt
sendanydataassociatedwithaport,allvaluesassociatedwiththatportareinvalidated(NA)
afterthesametimeoutperiod(Defaultsto20seconds).

Automated Report

NViewcanbelaunchedfromthecommandlineandgeneratealistofalltheswitchesfound
online.Theoutputisstoredtoatextfile.Thismakesitpossibleforonsiteserverstoruna
batchfileeachmorningthatqueriestheswitchesandrecordstheresults.Theresultscanthen
beautomaticallyemailedtoCustomerService,whocandeploythefieldtechstocheckaswitch
toseewhyitisoffline.Problemscanbesolvedbeforetheendusersevenknowtherewasone.

Thecommandlineinterfacewillonlydetectandlistswitchesthathavebeenmappedthrough
thegraphicalinterface.BeforerunningfromthecommandlinefollowthestepsintheMapping
Switchessection.Whencalledfromthecommandline,theNViewapplicationwillbestarted
andlistenforswitchesonthenetwork.Afterashortperiod,about10seconds,theapplication
willcloseagainandtheresultswillbeaccessible.

Thefileproduced(report.txt)willcontainthecreationtime,MACaddressesandaliasesforall
theswitchesthatwerediscoveredduringthe6+secondperiod.Ifreport.txtalreadyexistsitwill
beoverwrittenwiththenewinformation.Tokeeparunninglogand/ortokeeprecordsonone

AgreementshallbegovernedbythelawsoftheStateofAlabama,U.S.A.ThisAgreementistheentire
agreementbetweenusandsupersedesanyothercommunicationsoradvertisingwithrespecttotheSoftware

C. Ifanyprovisionoftheselicenseconditionsisfoundtobeinvalidorotherwiseunenforceable,thefurther
