Second Hearing | Parliament House, Canberra | 4 December 2015

CSIRO Misrepresentations
World Fire Safety Foundation (WFSF) report providing evidence of misrepresentations
by the Mr Mark Burgess of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research
Organization (CSIRO), to the Chairman of the Australian Senate Smoke Alarm Inquiry
Committee, Senator Glenn Lazarus on 04 December 2015.
-----------------------Background Information:
- The CSIROs ActivFire Certification Scheme:
www.ActivFire.gov.au
- Evidence of the flawed Australian Smoke Alarm Standard (AS3786-1993):
www.TheWFSF.org/sa
- Copies of communications with the CSIRO by the WFSF and Mr Chris Gulaptis MP
since 20 May 2009 including Open Letters, WFSF articles published in the Volunteer
Fire Fighter Association magazine, newspaper reports, Australian television news
reports and an Australian Senate Smoke Alarm Inquiry video:
www.SmokeAlarmWarning.org/csiro.html
- 'The Law & You' U.S. radio interview with WFSF Chairman Adrian Butler and
Standards Australia Committee member David Isaac, after CSIRO test data was
deposed in U.S. court case where three children died in a home fitted with ionization
alarms. The manufacturer settled out of court with a Protection Order and
Confidentiality Agreement keeping CSIRO test data from being released to the public:
