New Features Descriptions

The IQ Central v1.17 release adds the following new features:

Greenband Analysis Optimize offset programming for a coordinated corridor using an interactive
time-space diagram.

Split Monitor Optimize split programming for an intersection by recording actual phase utilization and
termination data and comparing to the programmed timings.

New Reports Volume and occupancy reports have been updated and expanded.

Voyage support retrieve logs using the System Scheduler

SQL Server support for converting database to SQL Server (for large database handling)

Greenband Analysis
Use the Greenband Analysis utility to help you analyze traffic flows along a stretch of road, and adjust the
coordination timing offsets from intersection to intersection. Using this tool, you set up a "corridor" a
coordinated stretch of two or more intersections then view the graphical analysis of the signal coordination
efficiencies along the way including the theoretical portion of vehicles passing through green at the
sequential intersections in the corridor, in either or both directions.
Launch the Greenband Analysis by selecting the main IQ Central menu Devices -> Intersections ->
Greenband Analysis. Using this feature, you can open an existing corridor or create and edit a new one,
using the corridor editor to assign phase numbers, distances and speeds along the included intersections:

Figure 1 The Greenband Viewer Intersection editor

Once you set the phases, and speed and distance parameters for the selected intersections along a corridor,
click the Show Graph button to display the resulting green bands (see Figure 2, p. 4). Before the display is
active, you will need to enter and set a valid pattern number and the speed limit, using the respective fields
and buttons on the Info pane of the Viewer.

Figure 2 The interactive Intersection to Intersection Timing Viewer

You can change the pattern, speed when needed. Or use the slider to set Forward/Reverse flow display
opacities as needed for clarification.
To adjust any intersection offset, simply click and drag the vertical intersection bar up or down, use the
graphic depiction as feedback to align the green bands to the subsequent signal cycles, as needed. Adjust
the speed if need be, on the fly, using the slider next to the Speed Limit button. Changing the speed will
change the slope of the greenbands (more speed decreases travel time, so decreases the slope).

Click on Details at the bottom to view a chart of the intersections, with respective pattern numbers,
programmed offsets and currently adjusted offset values.

On the Details pane, you can click the Save Offsets to save the adjusted offset values to the respective
controllers databases locally in IQ Central, for the selected pattern. Then these new values are ready to be
sent to the field controller(s) by the user.

Split Monitor
Use the Split Monitor utility to analyze the programmed versus actual split times run by an actuated
intersection running coordination. The resultant output is the percent utilization and average split time for
each phase for the plans monitored. The Split Monitor requires ongoing input from a connected, operating
traffic controller.
This information can be used to program new split times for the pattern that more closely match the actual
times the controller is running based on vehicle demand.
To begin an analysis, right-click on an intersection in the map or status window and select Split Monitor
from the context menu (see Figure 5 below).

Figure 5 Starting the Split Monitor for an intersection from the Map display.
When you select Split Monitor, the Split Monitor dialog opens, and automatically starts the data collection
(see Figure 6). A progress bar indicates the current cycle completion. The current coord plan and number of
cycles are also tracked. Run the monitor as long as needed for a fair representation of the phase/cycle
activity you wish to record and analyze (including through multiple plan changes).

When ready, click on Stop and Report to see the results:

Subsequent report content consists of sections for each coord plan, which summarize, and then detail for
each cycle, the phase utilization percentages, and other factors, such as reason for phase end, etc.

Across the top of the Split Monitor screen are a number of functional icons. You can save the analysis by
clicking on the disk icon, for example. You can also set up page parameters for printing, navigate through the
pages, search for terms in the analysis, change viewing zoom level, convert and export the report, etc.

Other Added Features

In addition to the new utilities, this IQ Central release also includes these enhancements:

Volume and Occupancy Reports The volume and occupancy report has been replaced by
three similar reports each supporting a different number of detectors. There are 16, 32 and 64
detector reports now available.

Voyager Controller Logging Support You can now use the IQ Central scheduled logging to
retrieve logs from the Voyager controller.

SQL Server Support You can now configure IQ Central to use the SQL Server for database
storage. This allows much more storage capacity , useful for large systems amassing data.

IQ Network Configuration Tool Easily designate non-standard locations for the IQ Central
server, utility application files, and database files.

Issues Addressed in this Release

The following are issues or enhancement requests that were reported based on previous releases of
IQ Central that have been repaired or addressed in the v1.17 update.
Table 3 Issues Repaired in IQ Central, v1.17

Issue

Resolution

Ref

Pattern Monitor stops polling when it comes to a local

controller under M3000 master that is not
programmed as active on the master itself.

The Pattern monitor now reports those

intersections as Inactive and continues polling.

Flat File Import of Voyage controller did not configure

any default polling for the map displays

Now Voyage controllers added via the flat file

import get default polling configured

Several of the status log tables in IQ Central fill up

and cause performance problems. There needs to be
a way to clear old data after archiving.

The archive now has an added step to optionally

clear the logged data after backing it up.

Manage Active Devices does not accurately show

device status when manually deactivating a device.

The status is now properly in sync within this

display.

8176

Traffic Data Export to excel raises an error when run.

No errors are raised when exporting Volume and

occupancy data to Excel.

Known Issues Remaining in this Release

Table 4 Known Issues Remaining in IQ Central v1.17

Issue

Workaround

Ref

The split monitor will take a very long time with no

indication of progress when saving a split report after a
long (several days) data collection period.

The process does complete with no problems. This

is only a cosmetic issue in that no progress status
is indicated.

8143

The Split Monitor Report does not indicate the coord

plan running in the details of each cycle monitored.

You can use the document map on the left of the

report to easily navigate to any of the triggered
coord plan summaries.

8231

The Split Monitor Report front page reports the

incorrect completion time of the data collection period
for the report.

You can open the document map on the left of the

report to see the time that the last cycle
monitored was run. Or you can just use the
navigation buttons to go to the last page of the
report.

8415

If you select Exit to close IQ Central and then change

your mind, you will be prompted to confirm the exit
(yes / no) twice.

Click No in the second prompt to keep IQ Central

open. Click Yes in the second prompt to exit IQ
Central.

7823

Connections to SQL Server database that are remote to

the IQ Central Server exhibit poor performance

Install the IQ Central NTCIP DataManager on the

same machine as the SQL Server instance.

8361

In the Greenband Analysis, greenbands will disappear

on the bottom of the screen for some intersections with
very short cycle lengths while adjusting the offset time.

You can still view the progression of upper

greenbands from higher cycles along the vertical
axis (time). This has to do with the programming
itself, in that the cycle length being very short
causes the fixed limit of number of cycles drawn
to truncate at the bottom.

8277

In the greenband graph window, reducing the window

size results in some of the graph being clipped .

Maximizing the greenband window will give the

best graphical results. There is a large amount of
information being communicated in the graph.

8215

In the greenband graph view, there is no warning when

a pattern is selected for which there are not compatible
cycle lengths on all intersections on the corridor.

This is a validation warning issue. Ultimately, the

cycle lengths should be compatible (all the same
or a multiple of the base cycle length). When they
are not compatible, there may be no offset
combinations that allow cars through in a
repeating pattern.

8430

Cancelling the Split Monitor - Open Saved File from the

menu results in the split monitor data collection view
opening with a grayed state.

You can just close the split monitor view. There

are no adverse effects associated with this.
