As a group of young people, we fully acknowledge the potentials that we possess.

We are the
key of change, deciding the fate of our nation. The history of our country, Indonesia, shows
how young people could drive a country to receive its independency. Blessed with durable
energy and great amount of spirit, it is not impossible that young people can be key of
ASEAN Community to reach its goals.
The reasons of young people can be the key of change are as follows:
1. Young people are full of ideas. The unlimited range of thinking, let young people able
to find out best solution towards the emerging and evolving problems, especially
when it deals to technology.
2. Young people are active in public participatory. Today young people become a bridge,
to connect government and the society. We believe a country can develop if the people
actively participate in the system. The public participatory not only accommodating
the demands from society but also keeping a country developed.
3. Young people are good friends. ASEAN community is created to build relationship
between others, not only in economy but also in social-culture. Therefore building
relationship among young people accross ASEAN countries are important to
strengthen the sense of belonging towards ASEAN community.
However these potentials cannot be developed due to some challenges. We think, young
people are facing the challenges as follows:
1. Equal opportunity. Even though young people have a lot of capabilities, inequal
opportunity seems to be a big obstacle. The inequality occured can be caused by many
factors, i.e. poverty, gender, religion, even to the small factor like geographical
location. All the factors close the access of young people to receive equal opportunity
to develop their potentials.
2. Negative behavior. Excessive energy of young people, when it is not transfrom
properly, it will lead young people to have negative behavior. Especially in
globalization era, when information flows cannot be stopped, young people tend to
unleash their energy in the wrong way which may devastating the society.
3. Society trust. Indeed, to receive the society trust is hard. If you are a 22 years old
college student, starting your own entreprise can be a joke. Not only in term of that,
many social causes led by young people are tend to be underestimated.
4. Generation gap. Elder people tend to create their own parameter in which sometimes
it doesn not suit the young people. Elder people are those who possess power, whether
in the gornment institution or in a household. The pressure given by elder people
limits the creativity of young people, thus they are not capable to develop the
potentials.
By the end of this year, we hope these challenges can be overcomed by entering ASEAN
Community.
1. We dream ASEAN Community as a community of opportunity, providing inclusive
facilities in order to empower young people to unleash their potentials. Where there
should be no poor people who cannot attend to school, no women to be discriminated,
and no believer to be hurted.
2. We dream ASEAN Community as a community of prosperity. Where young people
can be more independent, helping their families to go out from poverty.

3. We dream ASEAN Community as a community of peace and harmony. Where there is

no young people die because of armed conflicts. Where we young people can live
peacefully, achieving the dreams we have.
The ASEAN community is also a bridge to enhancing the capacity, creating the same
harmony and accelerating dignity among ASEAN nations. ASEAN community can be a
place for young people to collaborate together, such as by creating organizations based on
young people respective interests. This organization can be a central to exchange
knowledge such as by conducting substantial research across nation. Through a collective
view from each ASEAN member countries, we believe ASEAN could accommodate more
implementation of comprehensive policies that are friendly to young people.
