Kohler School Kohler School District

Board approves meets 73 percent of
strategic goals
2015/2016
budget
At its annual meeting on October 26, 2015, the Kohler School
Board approved the 2015/2016
school budget and tax levy. The
levy for the year will increase 1.43
percent. The corresponding levy
rate will drop an estimated 3.06
percent, due to an increase in property values of 4.63 percent.
The approved budget reflects a
$0 increase in the state imposed
revenue limit for the 2015/16
school year. The state permits each
district to raise a specific amount
of revenue to be used for education
and places a cap (i.e., revenue
limit) on this amount. The revenue
limit is comprised of 1) state aid,
and 2) local property tax levy.
This budget reflects the school
boards priorities of providing a
great education for our students
while maintaining our fiscal responsibilities to the community at
large. The Kohler School District
is very fortunate to have an extended network of engaged individuals
and
organizations.
Through this support, we are able
to consistently provide a first class
educational experience for our
children, stated Board President
Marlene Yang.

The total school tax levy for the

2014/2015 school year was
$5,661,973. The total levy for the
2015/2016 school year is
$5,742,815, an increase of $80,842
or 1.43 percent. The estimated tax
levy rate will fall from $10.82 per
$1,000 of property value to
$10.49, a reduction of 3.06 percent.
The Treasurers report at the annual meeting included an explanation of the factors comprising the
$81,000 increase in the tax levy.
Factors increasing the levy are:
1) a decrease in state aid
($69,000);
2) an increase in student membership based on a three year average
($10,000);
3) an increase in enrollment in the
Wisconsin Parental Choice Program/Voucher Program ($10,000).
Factors decreasing the levy are:
1) a decrease in Community Service Costs / Fund 80 ($8,000).
The Board is pleased to have a
balanced budget while using all
available resources to support a
high quality education in Kohler
Schools.

Submitted by Quynh D. Trueblood,

Superintendent of Schools
Upon completion of the annual
review of the strategic plan, the
Kohler School Board and Superintendent are pleased to announce
the district has met 73 percent of
the goals in four years of a fiveyear plan. In this last year of the
plan, the district will direct its efforts to achieving the following
priorities:
Developing a communication
plan for the district to guide us in
what, how, and when the community would like information

Developing a multi-source feedback system for our administration (often called 360 feedback)
to better understand how to serve
the community
Developing K-12 curriculum literacy to achieve vertical alignment to ensure essential learnings
are taught through all the grades
Enhancing supports for a positive
school climate and culture/
healthy student life balance which
are the lifeblood of vibrant
schools
Publishing the Special Education
vision of a continuum of services

Kohler Schools to mail out

community survey as part
of strategic communication
plan process
Village residents will receive a
survey in the mail by the third
week of November as part of the
Kohler School Districts strategic
communication planning process.
The survey is a chance for Kohler
residents to help the district build
a plan developed from public input
and partnerships that meet the

needs and priorities of the school

community.
Input from the surveys will be
sent directly to School Perceptions
LLC for analysis. The results will
then be presented in an open forum
in January. Residents will receive
an invitation to the open forum in
the future.

Postmodern Jukebox makes

Kohler Debut
KOHLER, Wis. The second performance in Kohler Foundations
2015-16 Distinguished Guest Series in Kohler will be the viral sensation Postmodern Jukebox. The
group is actually a rotating cast of
musicians and vocalists who are
taking over the internet with their
vintage versions of modern pop
hits.
Scott Bradlees Postmodern
Jukebox will perform on Friday,
January 22, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. at
Kohler Memorial Theatre. Delivering performances from a dynamic set list that keeps pace with
todays pop charts, creator/producer Scott Bradlee handpicks musicians and vocalists from an
ever-growing, rotating collective
of talent, with each member bringing something unique to the party.
Recent music videos produced for
Postmodern Jukeboxs newest
album, Swipe Right for Vintage,
have garnered upwards of 14 million views. Postmodern Jukebox is
equal parts variety show and jazz
band, created by a collaborative

community of performers including instrumentalists, vocalists, and

dancers. A genre-busting, rotating
cadre of performers reimagine
modern pop hits (everything from
Beyonc and Miley Cyrus to Radiohead and Green Day) in the
style of jazz, ragtime, doo wop,
Motown, and swing classics of the
1920s-1950s. An act that crosses
musical boundaries and generations, Postmodern Jukebox has developed a niche all its own, and
performs a live show unlike any
other.
In addition to the evening performance, Kohler Foundation is
also presenting an afternoon outreach event for local students. The
free matinee will consist of a short
set and a question and answer session with the band. The Foundation is working with Kohler High
School band director Rich Tengowski to liaise with other music
departments at county schools to
invite their students. Contact Rich
at Kohler High School (920-8037266) for more information if your

music student or class is interested

in attending. Audience size is limited and a waiting list may be initiated.

KOHLER, Wis. Kohler Credit
Union has received four MarCom
Awards from the Association of
Marketing & Communication Professionals (AMCP). The organizations marketing efforts garnered a
prestigious Platinum Award and
three Gold Awards.
Kohler Credit Union received the
MarCom Platinum Award for its
website redesign; a collaboration
with digital advertising agency,

Award was given to only 16-percent of the entries and is presented
to recognize the winners for their
excellence in terms of quality, creativity and resourcefulness. Kohler
Credit Union also received a Gold

Gold Award is presented to recognize entries that exceed the high
standards of industry norm.
I am fortunate to work with a
talented and creative marketing
team that is always raising the bar
and dedicated to the credit unions
goals and mission. I also had the
privilege of working with two
wonderful partners in achieving
two of our awards; Dynamic, Inc.
who helped us redesign our website and Video Wisconsin who produced our winning video. Both of
these organizations were instrumental in helping us achieve these
two awards, but more importantly
in helping us strengthen our brand

and improving the experience our

members have with Kohler Credit
Union, said Laura Gabrielse, vice
president of communications at
Kohler Credit Union.
MarCom Awards is an international creative competition that
recognizes outstanding achievement by marketing and communication professionals. This is the

In the lead up to the recent successful PGA Championship event at

Whistling Straits, the Sheboygan
County Planning & Conservation
Department received a surprising
call from Lexmark, which was the
official Imaging and Printing Solutions Provider of The PGA of
America. Lexmark asked if the
County had a location in need of
450 donated trees. Lexmark donates
trees to be planted in the local communities where PGA events occur
to help offset the environmental impact from document printing during
the PGA. Lexmark estimated that
more than 200,000 documents were
printed during the 2016 PGA
Championship at Whistling Straits.
Lexmark also typically donates
the labor required to help plant the
trees, but due to the timing of the
event and local climate for the best
planting times, the County instead
planted the trees on November 11 at
a County wetland mitigation site
that was required for one of the airport runway expansions that impacted wetlands.
According to the Countys Planning and Conservation Director,
Aaron Brault, the County is required to plant trees from time to
time to meet a certain survival rate
on the trees it plants as part of the
mitigation process. Brault said the
donated trees will not only help offset the PGAevents environmental
impact, they will also save the
County money from having to purchase additional trees for its mitigation requirements. Many thanks
should be given to Lexmark for its
generosity and corporate citizenship,said Brault.

maybe another dog. I sure hope someone falls in love with
me soon, I have so many kisses to give!

Hello out there! My name is Annah and I'm looking to

adopt a family. My previous owner gave me up because of allergies. My heart was hurt but the staff here
have helped me to heal, and I feel like I'm ready to
