Lectionary 34
November 21st and 22nd, 2015
Holy Communion (V)
INTRODUCTION
Even after Israel had experienced the vagaries of kings, they still longed
for a true king to set things right. He would have the kings title of Anointed
One (Messiah); he would be the one like a human being (Son of Man)
given dominion in Daniels vision. Jesus is given these titles, even though
he is nothing like an earthly king. His authority comes from the truth to
which he bears witness, and those who recognize the truth voluntarily
listen to him. We look forward to the day he is given dominion, knowing his
victory will be the nonviolent victory of love.
CHILDREN are always welcome to our Worship Service. Rainbow bags
and a cry room are available. A staffed nursery is also available if needed.
An usher will gladly provide you with assistance.
As a worship courtesy, we ask that you please turn off or set to vibrate
all cellular telephones and pagers during the worship service.
We ask that all present today please fill out the Attendance and Communion
registration card found in your bulletin and place it in the offering plate so
that we may record your presence with us.
PRAYER UPON ENTERING THE PEW
Almighty God, all thoughts of truth and peace come from you. Kindle in
the hearts of all your children the love of peace, and guide with your
wisdom the leaders of the nations, so that your kingdom will go forth in
peace and the earth will be filled with the knowledge of your love, through
Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
GREETING
Now is the acceptable time, now is the day of salvation. The grace of our
Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit
be with you all.
And also with you.
KYRIE
Let us pray.
Almighty and ever-living God, you anointed your beloved Son to be priest
and sovereign forever. Grant that all the people of the earth, now divided by
the power of sin, may be united by the glorious and gentle rule of Jesus
Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.
Please be seated.
A MESSAGE FOR OUR CHILDREN

2 Samuel 23:1-7
Refrain:
Tone:
The LORD has sworn an oath to David, and in truth, | will not break it:
A son, the fruit of your body, will I set up- | on your throne.

If your children keep my covenant and my testimonies that | I shall
teach them,
their children will sit upon your throne for- | evermore. R

Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to
come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5and from Jesus
Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the
kings of the earth.
To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood, 6and made
us to be a kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and
dominion forever and ever. Amen.
7Look! He is coming with the clouds;
every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him;
and on his account all the tribes of the earth will wail.
So it is to be. Amen.
8I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who
was and who is to come, the Almighty.

Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him,
Are you the King of the Jews? 34Jesus answered, Do you ask this on
your own, or did others tell you about me? 35Pilate replied, I am not a
Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to
me. What have you done? 36Jesus answered, My kingdom is not from this
world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be
fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my
kingdom is not from here. 37Pilate asked him, So you are a king? Jesus
answered, You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I
came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the
truth listens to my voice.
Please stand.

HYMN OF THE DAY: The King of Love My Shepherd Is (ELW 502)
BAPTISMAL RITE
PRESENTATION OF CANDIDATES
Verse: Blessed is the one who comes in the name | of the Lord.*
Blessed is the coming kingdom of our an- | cestor David.
(Mark 11:9)
God, who is rich in mercy and love, gives us a new birth into a living hope
through the sacrament of baptism. By water and the Word God delivers us
from sin and death and raises us to new life in Jesus Christ. We are united
with all the baptized in the one body of Christ, anointed with the gift of the
Holy Spirit, and joined in God's mission for the life of the world.
Amelias sponsors, Kelly Herrington and Christina Hughes present her:

by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at
the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and
the dead.
Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of
saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life
everlasting. Amen.
THANKSGIVING AT THE FONT
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning your Spirit moved over
the waters and by your Word you created the world, calling forth life in
which you took delight. Through the waters of the flood you delivered
Noah and his family, and through the sea you led your people Israel from
slavery into freedom. At the river your Son was baptized by John and
anointed with the Holy Spirit. By the baptism of Jesus' death and
resurrection you set us free from the power of sin and death and raise us up
to live in you.
Pour out your Holy Spirit, the power of your living Word, that those who
are washed in the waters of baptism may be given new life. To you be given
honor and praise through Jesus Christ our Lord, in the unity of the Holy
Spirit, now and forever.
Amen.
BAPTISM
The pastor pours water over Amelias head, saying
Amelia Katherine, I baptize you in the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
The pastor makes the sign of the cross in oil on Amelias forehead
Amelia, child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked
with the cross of Christ forever.
We rejoice with you in the life of baptism. Together we will give thanks
and praise to God and proclaim the Good News to all the world.
Please stand and greet one another in the peace of the risen Christ.
PEACE
ANNOUNCEMENTS
PRAYERS

saints for healing, wholeness, and peace in all the earth.

ANTHEM AT THE OFFERING
PREFACE
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY
OFFERING PRAYER
Let us pray. O God, ruler of heaven and earth, all that we have and all that
we are come through you. We offer back in thanksgiving a portion of what
you have given us: our time, our work, and our wealth. With them we
dedicate our lives to the care and redemption of all that you have made,
through Jesus Christ, who gave himself for the salvation of the world.
Amen.
DIALOGUE
EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, you have brought us this
far along the way. In times of bitterness you did not abandon us, but guided
us into the path of love and light. In every age you sent prophets to make
known your loving will for all humanity. The cry of the poor has become
your own cry; our hunger and thirst for justice is your own desire.
In the fullness of time, you sent your chosen servant to preach good news to
the afflicted, to break bread with the outcast and despised, and to ransom
those in bondage to prejudice and sin.
and hope of your Son. Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the
Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, almighty Father, now and forever.
Amen.
Crucified, risen Lord of heaven and earth, remember us in your kingdom,
and teach us to pray:
