Club career[edit]
Grasshoppers[edit]
Hajrovi spent nine years in Grasshoppers academy from 2000 to 2009. He finally
broke into the first team during the 200910 season. He was used mostly as an
attacking midfielder and as a right winger. His strong left foot made him a
valuable asset on the right side of midfield, as he often cut into the left to shoot
with his stronger foot. His brother, Sead Hajrovi, also played with him in the
academy before moving on to Arsenal.
Galatasaray[edit]
On 7 January 2014, he was officially transferred to Turkish club Galatasaray for
3.5 million on a four-and-a-half year deal.[2] He cited his Bosniak roots and
Islam as some of the reasons he agreed to join Galatasaray. Hajrovi made his
season debut against Bursaspor, coming in as a substitute in the second half in a
6-0 home win.[3] He scored his first goal against Tokatspor on 5 February, in a 3
0 win for the campaign's Turkish Cup.[4]
Werder Bremen[edit]
After filing a complaint to FIFA that he received no payments from Galatasaray,
he was given the right to move on a free transfer elsewhere.[5] On 10 July 2014,
Hajrovi signed a four-year contract for Werder Bremen.[6] Hajrovi made his
debut on 23 July 2014 for Werder Bremen in a 5-2 win against SSW Innsbruck.[7]
Eibar (loan)[edit]
On 31 August 2015, Hajrovi was loaned to La Liga side SD Eibar on a seasonlong deal.[8]
International career[edit]
Hajrovi confirmed in June 2013 that he would opt to play for Bosnia and
Herzegovina national football team in the future as Hitzfeld did not give player
desired game time.[10]
On 13 August 2013, FIFA have confirmed that he is now available for Bosnia and
Herzegovina national team, due his application for changing his sport citizenship
from Swiss to Bosnian.[11][12]
On 26 August Bosnian national team manager Safet Sui included Izet in his
squad for two September world cup qualification games against Slovakia at home
and away.[13] On 10 September 2013, Hajrovi scored his first goal for Bosnia
and Herzegovina against Slovakia, coming on from the bench in 77th minute of
the game. His very first contact with the ball after just a few seconds on a pitch
resulted in a stunning 25m-strike goal.[14][15]
On 6 June Izet Hajrovi scored his second international goal for Bosnia and
Herzegovina, on assist by Sejad Salihovi, in a 10 friendly win against Mexico.
He was named in Bosnia and Herzegovina's squad for their first ever FIFA World
Cup appearance, at 2014 Brazil tournament. He made his World Cup debut as
starter in a 12 loss to Argentina in the opening group match, and was
substituted off in the 71st minute. Izet was a starter in the second game vs
Nigeria as well, but failed to impress which resulted in player not taking any part
in the last group match against Iran.
Personal life[edit]
His parents are Bosniaks from Bijelo Polje, Montenegro, but they relocated to
Sarajevo in 1980. They moved to Switzerland in 1987.[16][17] His younger
brother, Sead Hajrovi is also a footballer, with the Swiss Super League side
Grasshopper Club Zrich. His manager/agent is Zoran Samardija. [18]
