IRAC Diamide/Lepidoptera
Project Plan

Objective: to compare in Taiwan in a slight diamide resistant situation (DBM

in brassica) the concept of a strict IRM-IRAC recommendation (alternation of
different modes of action in window applications) with the concept of no IRM
farmer practice

Timining: kick of at 2nd country meeting in the week of May 28 June 2nd;
project start in October/November

Study layout: collaboration with an official/University, large scale field study,

laboratory testing at the beginning and at the end.

such as Proclaim 1.9EC; Alika 247ZC; Karate 2.5EC should be used.

2011 Accomplishments:
Global Diamide WG Activities

Formed 5 country Diamide Working groups: Italy, Morocco, Taiwan, Turkey, and
Malaysia. All met and progressed through first 5 steps.

Joined by new member from Nichino, USA, Anna Armstrong

Created Diamide IRM and WG poster

Developed IRM strategies for numerous crops/insects in key countries

Established relations with China National DBM resistance monitoring program

Completed training materials (Flip Chart) for Train the Farmers in Philippines

Edited Global Diamide IRM Guidelines and Country Diamide IRM Guidelines and
approved by organization

Collected data to confirm Diamide R in Taiwan DBM, India DBM, Brazil DBM, Florida
Liriomyza

Collected data to investigate suspicious populations in India Leucinodies, Brazil

Pseudopluisa, Australia XR, Philippines Leucinoides

Global members participated in numerous Country WG meetings to coordinate activities

China regulatory organization agreed to accept MoA on all insecticide labels.

Helped develop the IRM rotation strategy for the Tuta poster and brochure.

Received feedback from 18 countries on Diamide WG activities, issues, and progress

Developed draft of Diamide Resistance Questions and Answers

Conducted baseline data collection for Cyantraniliprole in key countries

Insecticide Resistance Action Committee

Goals

Objectives

Timeline

Maintain currency of the global

diamide guidelines based
on new experiences and
new products
(cyantraniliprole).

Review and update our global IRM guidelines (label language, poster)

Q3

Increase global participation in

Diamide IRM by creating
more country diamide
working groups to address
the risk of insect resistance.

Start Diamide WGs in Morocco (Andrea), Italy (Andrea), Turkey (Robert), Taiwan
(Robert), Israel (Andrea), South Africa (Luis)

Q3

Hasten company participation

and compliance within
country diamide working
groups to communicate
MoA, implement IRM
strategies, and align IRM
label language.

Move the existing WGs from planning stage (develop recommendations) to

action stage (implementation of IRM recommendations and educational plans)
Increase participation of Global Diamide WG members in Country WG meetings
Improve compliance of the labels with the IRM guidelines
Develop measures beyond IRM guidelines to prevent resistance and offer them
to high risk countries (Robert to make a first draft)

Q4

Prior to a diamide product launch it is important to establish the baseline susceptibility

level of the most important pests of selected crops. The main objectives of this
effort are product stewardship, creating the capacity to respond to performance
issues, and complying with regulatory requirements, if applicable. The Diamide
WG recommends that bioassays be conducted according to the methods
approved by IRAC. When IRAC approved methods are not available for specific
pests, the Diamide-producing companies should work to generate new methods
through IRACs Methods WG.

Q4

Create baseline insect

susceptibility data for future
data comparisons.
