EUROPASS
An exchange between performing artists and video installation artists in Ermoupolis, regarding Europe
NOW, as "we ask ourselves in hope, in fear and trembling, what this face is going to resemble."

An exploration of identity, the other, borders, culture, and freedom.
With the Europass project we take the responsibility to open a discussion regarding Europe and ourselves.
We focus on the present of Europe and we are looking for projects that will present your perception,
imagery, connotations, feelings, and questions that this topic is revealing to you.
Please bear in mind that Ermoupoli, the capital of Cyclades where the festival will be held, is a town founded
by refugees in the 19th century.
Ships arrived safe and sound at Syros whereas others cracked in storms and were wrecked at the Aegean
sea. But still, sea and even more so the Mediterranean evokes navigation, exchange, this somethingthat carried merchandise and gods ideas and methods [Derrida].
In the near future, in our diverse European societies, will different generations, age group
communities and people with different habits, religions, languages still be living together?
We hope that the Europass project will take you on a journey through time and across borders.

Project Guidelines:
Artists are encouraged to consider the following options with regards to the locations and venue
possibilities that the city of Ermoupolis offers:
Video-Art Installations at key-locations that define the city (clock-tower, school, church, public

services buildings)
Site-specific installations at the points of the city that have a clear view of the sea. That is where
people and goods come and leave through.
Video-Art installations on the bodies of the docked ships
Augmented reality projects through smart phone apps, interaction between image and sound,
interactive (motion detection) animation
Performing art and dance exhibitions in public space. Proposals that will enhance the
participation of the audience and the community. Artists are also welcome to use citys
architectural elements such as squares, stairs, ruins, gardens.
Eligible Participants:
Eyes Walk digital festival welcomes video installation artists and performing artists from all over
the world.
Deadlines:
Applications deadline is February 29th, 2016.
Deadline for test screenings of the video projects on the chosen locations of Ermoupolis is March
31st, 2016.

resembles? Will it resemble the face of some persona whom we believe we know: Europe? And if
its non-resemblance bears the traits of the future, will it escape monstrosity?"
