1.0ProjectRequirements
Professor Steve Mann, a professor at the University of Toronto, is considered to be the father of
wearablecomputing[1].
The Project Requirements will help outline the scope of the project by identifying the problem, the
stakeholders, the functions, the objectives, the service environment, in addition to the client ethics and
values.
1.1ProblemStatement:
Professor SteveMannhasbeen working inthe fieldof wearable computing formorethan30years[1]and
is currently is the General Chair of an international conference sponsored by the IEEE organization. The
client currently operates two websites, one providing news about his ongoing research and theotheris a
socialnetworkingforthosewhousewearablecomputing(cyborgs).
The client requires a design that willcombine thecontentof histwo websitesand thecontentof theIEEE
website, which provides information about the IEEE sponsored international conference. The motive
behind the clients interest is that even though the content of these three websites have different
audiences(University of Toronto students, cyborgs, and technophiles), they are strongly related in
definingtheclientsworkandcontributiontothefieldofwearablecomputing.
Every website has a linking profile[2] a record of all other websites from which the aforementioned
website can be reached from. The more the websites present in the linking profile, the higher the
websites rank in search engines. This means that if 2 or more websiteswithsimilar content aremerged,
the consolidation of the linking profiles results in a higher ranking. Due to the current distribution of
Professor Manns content, the exposure of the information to the targeted audiences is less efficient and
itsmaintenanceismoretimeconsuming.
The design will be a means of transmitting information and will convey the merged content of the 3
websites. It will transmit information between Professor Mann and the targeted audience, as well as
amongthetargetedaudienceitself.

The cyborg community is dispersed among 72 countries with a wide variety of different languages and
cultures. English is recognized as the international language and is the most common language
online(APPENDIXE).
2.0AlternativeDesigns:
This section outlines the five alternative designs that were generated by the team. Each design meets all
the constraints but utilizes different methods to satisfy the objectives. The ideas were generated in a
number of steps: First, the team used structural brainstorming. After sharing solutions and weeding out
those which did not meet the constraints, the team used SCAMPER to generate more possible
solutions(APPENDIX F). After these steps, the team had 30 viable ideas(APPENDIX G). Then
multivoting was used, and ideas with less than three votes were eliminated, leaving us with ten viable
designs(APPENDIX G). Pairwise comparison(APPENDIX H) was used to rank the objectives andthe
ten ideas were then plotted against the two top rankingobjectives(APPENDIX I).The fiveideas lying in
thefirstquadrantwerechosenasthealternativedesigns.
The brief introduction of each design and its diagram can befoundbelow. Comparisonsofthesedesigns

The personal description section will contain information regarding Professor Manns past and current
work with wearablecomputing. A blogginglayoutwill beusedforthebodyof theChannel, which contains
three sections: ECE 516, wearable computing, an IEEE conference. Each section will contain related
videos. (i.e: ECE 516 section will contain lecture videos, IEEE section will contain videos regarding the

2.5AlternativeDesign5:AndroidMobileApplication
A mobile application is a software designed to run on smartphones and other mobile devices. Android
mobile applications are written using Java Programming Language[17] and are maintained with a
multiuser Linux System[18]. The interface of the design will contain 3 essential subsections: chat,
contacts, and social. The design will allow users to view pictures, and linkable articles and websites, and
registered users to chat with one another as well as post. This design will also link users to the client's
existingwebsites.
