8. DHRITI (Libra 06 40 to 20 00)


Dhriti means steadiness, constancy and in control of your
life. These people are leaders, firm, supportive, constant,
loyal, patient, and of good disposition. They may be
attracted to perfumery. Their negative qualities include
being fickle, lazy, greedy, prone to extra marital affairs and
enjoying unwise romantic entanglements.

15. SHWATI: The Self-Going Star


The symbol for Shwati is a single blade of grass blowing in
the wind, reflecting the independent and autonomous
nature of this asterism. It has a Chara or moveable nature
and is ruled by restless Rahu, the North Node of the Moon.
A love of educational travel and the need for positive
change is often experienced here. Other symbols for this
lunar mansion are a sword (discrimination) and a priest or
priestess. Shwati is of Deva temperament with a primary
motivation of Artha or attainment of wealth. This is a very
intellectual Nakshatra that demonstrates excellent communication skills. It has the capacity to achieve justice
(Libra) thru personal power.
Saraswati, the Goddess of Learning is the female Deity
associated with Shwati. Shwati is ruled by Vayu, the God of
the Wind and Prana. It gives the power to scatter like the
wind (Pradhvamsa Shakti). Its basis above is moving in
various directions. Its basis below is change of form. The
result of these three is transformation.
Shwati Nakshatra causes things to move and scatter. This
can be destructive unless we learn how to use it to remove
negativity. All these indications are basically those of the
Wind, which has both healing and destructive powers.
The Wind desired, "May I win the freedom to move as I wish
in all the worlds". One who makes the appropriate offering
to the Wind, to Shwati, gains the freedom to move as he
wishes in all the worlds.
The Wind, Vayu, has free movement in all the worlds. Those
born in Vayus Nakshatra of Shwati have a similar desire.
They dont like to be held or tied down. They like to travel
where they want and when they want.

of leadership. Business skill, sales, transportation and travel

2. BHARANI: The Star of Restraint


The symbol for Bharani is a clay vessel or Yoni, reflecting
the potent creative energy that is contained in this lunar
mansion. According to Atharva Veda, Bharani is the final
Nakshatra listed, revealing its connection with the end of
life. Another name for this asterism is Apabharani, which
translates as the waters that carry things away. Bharani
has a Manushya, or Human temperament and the primary
motivation is Artha or prosperity. The ruling planet is
Venus, reflecting the creative nature and strong sexual
desires of this Nakshatra.
Bharani is ruled by Yama (the binder), the God of Death. It
has the power to take things away (Apabharani Shakti).
Its basis above is the removal of life from the body. Its basis
below is the carrying of the soul to the realm of the ancestors. By the combination of these three factors creatures
move on to the next world.
Bharani Nakshatra takes away that which has reached its
term of life to a new condition. It shows the movement of
the soul away from the body. Yama guides the soul to the
astral plane, where it can experience the result of its Karma
from the present life and prepare for the life to come.
Yama is a figure of discipline and sacrifice.
Yama desired, "May I win the lordship of the ancestors".
One who makes the appropriate offering to Yama and to
Bharani wins the lordship of the ancestors and wins the
lordship of his peers.

17. VYATIPATA (Aquarius 06 40 to 20 00)


Vyatipata is a tough Yoga to be born under. It means
disrespect and deception and has the potential for an
extremely difficult life event to occur that can scar the
psyche. Usually parents will get remedial measures done for
children with this Yoga. There is a struggle for these people
to keep their mind on spiritual things as they desire the
material more. They listen to their parents and elders but
are not able to respect them internally. They are truthful,
caring, hardworking entrepreneurs with strong leadership
qualities, but they can block themselves. They can be
restless, unreliable, unstable and deceptive too.

24. SHATABISHA: The Hundred Stars


Shatabisha also translates as the hundred healers or the
hundred flowers. The symbol for Shatabisha is an empty
circle, reflecting the independent nature and autonomy
experienced through this lunar mansion. This Nakshatra
can also be a challenging birth star for early marriage.
Rahu, as the ruling planet of this asterism indicates a love
for travel and adventure. It has a Rakshasa temperament
with the primary motivation being Dharma or right action.
Shatabisha is ruled by Varuna, the God of Medicine and
the Cosmic Waters, which provides the natives with a
strong connection to the healings arts. Varuna is the Cosmic
Man pouring his healing waters unto humanity. It has the
power of healing (Bheshaja Shakti). Its basis above is
extension or pervasion over all. Its basis below is the support
of all. These three make the world free of calamity.

crisis leading to revitalization. Varuna is a God of sin, debts,
injury and disease, who cannot only bring these calamities
upon us but can remove them from us, if we propitiate him
sincerely.
Varuna desired, "May I be firm and not unsteady". One
who makes the appropriate offering to Varuna, to Shatabisha, becomes firm and not unsteady.
This firmness also implies freedom from disease and debility. Shatabisha is a Nakshatra of healing and energization.
Shatabisha Career Interests: Astrologers, astronomers.
Physicians, nurses, healers. Writers, research work, nuclear
scientists. Clerical work, secretaries, editors. Engineers and
electricians. Organizational development, business skill.
Shatabisha is formed by a large group of faint stars in
Aquarius, the Water Bearer.

11. POORVA PHALGUNI: The Fruit of the Tree


This creative nakshatra is ruled by the planet Venus denoting brilliant skills in the fine arts and a love of pleasure. The
symbols associated with this asterism are a swinging hammock, a couch and two legs of a bed reflecting a place of
rest and enjoyment. The primary motivation experienced
here is Kama or pleasure. The shakti is the power of
creative procreation. The temperament is manushya or
human.
Poorva Phalguni in the Vedic order is ruled by Bhaga, the
God of Prosperity, who protects marital happiness and
bestows family inheritance. It gives the power of procreation (Prajanana Shakti). Its basis above is the wife or

26. INDRA (Gemini 06 40 to 20 00)


Indra means belonging to the senses, but here it also means
the ability to master them. Indra is the God of Gods and is
a great warrior, a powerful personality who strives for
victory especially over wayward desires and fights the
demons to save the world. These people are gifted, famous,
righteous, wealthy particularly from real estate, with a will
to succeed and are popular and adored, treated like a king
by friends and family. But they can suffer from Kapha
related diseases and may get involved in the wrong kind of
relationships.

6. ARIDRA: The Star of Sorrow


The primary symbols for Aridra are a human head, representing thinking, and a teardrop, which represents overcoming suffering. It is an excellent rising Nakshatra because
it reflects brilliant mental abilities. The ruling planet is
Rahu, the North Node of the Moon, denotes the sharp,
fierce activity of this asterism. Aridra can represent the
clarity and emotional cleansing that occurs after the storms

lord of wild animals.

20. POORVA ASHADHA: The Invincible Star


Poorva Ashadha means early victory or the undefeated,
the unsubdued. The symbol is a fan or a winnowing
basket, which rids corn of the husks. The fan can signify
popularity as their name is fanned around a lot by the
public. Poorva Ashadha has a Human or Manushya temperament with a primary motivation of Moksha, or spiritual liberation.
Poorva Ashadha primary Deity is Apas, the Cosmic Waters.
Varuna, the God of the Waters, is considered a secondary
Deity for this Naksahtra. Its power is that of invigoration
(Varchograhana Shakti). Its basis above is strength. Its basis
below is connection. Through these three one gains lustre.
Poorva Ashadha brings about purification and regeneration, like the energy gained through taking a bath in
water. It provides us additional energy for our efforts. These
effects flow from the Waters, which in this instance are
heavenly in nature and can provide inner purification.

sea". One who makes the appropriate offering to the
Water Goddesses, to Ashadha, gains at wish the sea.

desiring to reach the ocean. It is a creative, nurturing and
healing Nakshatra.
