How to revive the Ummah

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful and peace be

upon his beloved Prophet Mohammad, upon his family and
companions.

In this article, I will briefly explain how I think we should revive the
Ummah from the grass roots at the bottom i.e. the masses, which
will then help to revive Islam at the top i.e. laws, govt. and
eventually the Khilafah.

1) I think muslims should reject anything that is kufr.

Allah (swt) says in the Quran;

“And the Jews will not be pleased with you, nor the Christians
until you follow their religion.” (2:120)

Today the majority of Christians are what I call part-time believers,

they’ll visit church maybe once a month, on Christmas, Easter or
when someone either gets married or dies. The Jews are also now
becoming like them in Israel you will find homosexual clubs and
other dens of sin, so much for being “God’s chosen people”.

They (Christians, Jews & other kuffar) want the muslims to become
like them, to accept the separation of state & religion (secularism),
ignore what is forbidden and indulge in sin. This is why whenever a
group calls for the implementation of Islam they are called ‘radical
islamists’ and other things by the kuffar. So as muslims we should
reject any notions that aren’t in the Quran or the Sunnah meaning
we should reject Capitalism, Communism, Marxism, Secularism etc.
as these ideologies aren’t part of Islam. Once we remove such
ideologies from our thinking, education curriculum’s etc. then and
only then will we see a change in the masses of the Ummah, Allah
(swt) says;

“Allah does not change a people's lot unless they change what
is in their hearts.” (13:11)

2) Seek knowledge.

The first verse of the Quran to be revealed enjoined reading which is

key to seeking knowledge;
“Read! In the name of your lord……” (96:1)

The prophet (saw) said;

“Whoever follows a path in the pursuit of knowledge, Allah
(SWT) will make a path to Paradise easy for him.” (Narrated
by al-Bukhaari, Kitaab al-‘Ilm, 10)

Ibn Qayyim (rh) said:

"There are six stages to knowledge:
Firstly: Asking questions in a good manner.
Secondly: Remaining quiet and listening attentively.
Thirdly: Understanding well.
Fourthly: Memorising.
Fifthly: Teaching.
Sixthly- and it is its fruit: Acting upon the knowledge and
keeping to its limits."

I could quote more sayings and verses but the three above are more
than enough evidence of how much knowledge is valued in Islam.
By seeking knowledge we will become closer to Allah and Islam,
especially if we learn about our history and historical figures like
Salahuddin Ayubbi. Also the modern history of the muslim world
from the Saudi occupation of the hejaz to the secularism in Turkey
these kinds of topics are essential in correcting past mistakes and
the crimes of the west.

In many of our communities there are high illiteracy rates which is a

great shame on people that have great educational heritage and
parts of our problems are to do with the lack of literacy and
education, so we must change this and help change others. Lend
others your books, help them learn to read the Quran, if they don’t
speak Arabic give them translations of the Quran help them, help
run a school or a masjid either financially or in person.

3) Politics

Learn about geo-politics and if you can become a political activist if

not in real life then online on social networking sites like facebook or
youtube. The role of the internet is a major tool in todays world and
we should use it as much as we can it breaks all the boundaries of
traditional methods of communicating and the best thing is that
tyrannical regimes can’t really censor everything online so muslims
in the west can communicate with muslims in the muslim world who
can keep us up-to-date with the situation back there and we can do
the same.

Here are some sites and youtube pages, which I think, have a great
ways of helping to revive the Ummah.
