TheblueandwhitesectionsoftheBMWlogowereoriginallycreatedtosymbolizethe

ThelogofortheFrenchmadePeugeotstartedin1847asalionstandingonanarrow.The
Peugeotfamilyoriginallystarted,thisnowautomobilecompany,asacoffeemillcompanyin
1810.ThePeugeotfamilyreinventedthecompanyasanautomobilemanufacturerin1882.
Thelionsymboltrademarkwasappliedforin1858,byEmilePeugeot.
OverthemanyyearsthePeugeotbrandlogohasevolved,butithasalwaysincorporatedthe
lionasthemainfocalpoint.Wefirstsawtheupwardstandingliondesignin1948,whichis

ThelogofortheSouthKoreanmadeKiabeganin1944asatriangulardesignwiththeword
Kiawrittenwithinthemiddleofthelogo.ThewordKiaistakenfromtheSinoKoreanword
ki,whichmeanstocomeoutandtheaisarepresentingofAsia.Puttogethertheword
symbolizestocomeoutofAsia.
Thedesigntookadrasticchangein1964,andwaschangedtoagreencirclewithahalf
slashthroughthetoppartofthecircle.In1986thecompanyrevertedbacktoincorporating
thewordKiawithinthedesign.Webegantoseeasimilardesigntothepresentlogoin
1994,whichstillkeepsthewordKiaasthemainfocus.

HistoryofAutomobiles
Totrulyappreciatehowfarautomobileshaveprogressed,ithelpstohaveknowledgeoftheir
history.Nontraditionalautomobilessuchasthefirststeampoweredautomobile,capableof
humantransportation,havebeenaroundsincethelateeighteenthcentury.Theautomobile
hasgonethroughseveralerasofprogressiontoprovideuswiththemoderndaymulti
capablepowerhousemachines,whichwenowencounterandrelyondaily.
TherewastheBrassera,asknownastheEdwardianera,whichbeganin1905and

AfterthiseratherewastheVintageera.TheVintageerabeganattheendofWorldWarI

frontengineandclosedbodydesign.Internalcombustionenginedesignswerequickly
developing,creatingV8,V12,andV16engines.Duringthisera,MalcolmLoughead,theco

founderofLockheed(nowknownasLockheedMartin)inventedhydraulicbrakes.Thefirst
automatictransmissionandtemperedglasswerealsoinventedduringtheVintageera.
FollowingtheVintageerawasthePreWorldWarIIera.ThisPreWorldWarIIerawasthe
firstpartoftheClassiceraofcars,andbeganwiththeGreatDepressionin1930andended
around1946.Thiseraintegratedfenders,runningboards,headlights,andfullyclosedbodies
intothedesign.Frontwheeldriveandindependentsuspensionwasreinventedfor
automobileduringthisera.

ThesecondpartoftheClassicerawasthePostWarera.Thiserastartedaftertheendof
WorldWarIIandcontinuedthroughoutthe1970s.ThePostWarerarevolutionizedthebody
styleofcarstothePontonstyle.Duringthisera,carspeedsincreasedaswellastheir
enginepower.Manyautomobilebrandsbeganmarketinginternationally,causingaboostin
carimportingandexporting.
