Meridium Thickness Monitoring is used to document, manage, and analyze data that is
associated with the physical plant equipment. Inspection data management is a critical
component to understanding the current condition of plant equipment. An accurate
understanding of current equipment condition is critical to analyzing the reliability and
future availability of equipment.
Meridium Thickness Monitoring allows you to define TMLs Groups and then collect
measurements for those TMLs in the context of various maintenance events. It provides
functionality to collect and manage equipment inspection data in a format that can be
easily analyzed by the Meridium analytical tools.

1.2 Meridium Thickness Monitoring
From a high level standpoint, TM has four main functions:
Manages TMLs Group and thickness measurement data for fixed equipment
Calculates Short and Long Term Corrosion Rates
Calculates Next Inspection and Projected T-Min Dates
Interfaces with data collection devices
1.3 Dataloggers
Meridium Thickness Monitoring supports handheld data recorders manufactured by
Krautkramer Branson and Panametrics. TMLs can be easily uploaded from the Meridium
database to a datalogger. In turn, measurements can be easily downloaded from a datalogger to
the Meridium database.

2.3 The TMLs and Measurement Form
There are several ways to create TMLs. In the following lesson, you will use the TMLs and
Measurement method, the most efficient one for creating multiple TMLs.
The TMLs and Measurement form is used to create multiple TMLs for a given Asset. When
you use this form to create TMLs, you will have the option to enter Base, Near and Last
(Previous) thickness measurements and dates. Keep in mind that you must input any
measurement data for a new TML before saving it, or you will need to use a different form to
enter this data.

2.8 TM Color-Coding
Color-coding is used to flag TMLs and Measurements that may require attention.
Colors are used to represent the following conditions:
Below T-Min
Overdue Inspection or Retirement Date
High Loss
Growth
Default color-coding preferences may be used or the TM Administrator may customize
them. Only the TM Administrator may customize these preferences, but any user may
refer to Online Help topics pertaining to the default preferences.
Following are the customized Color-Coding Preferences that have been set in your
training database:
Blue = Growth
Magenta = High loss
Yellow = Overdue inspection or replacement
Red = Below minimum thickness
The TM Administrator may also change the High Loss percentage value, which defines
what percentage of loss, from one measurement to the next, will be considered High
Loss.

If you have collected and documented a large number of measurement readings, you
can input them into the Measurement Data Entry form, using the bulk data entry
method.
The fields available via the Measurement Data Entry form differ from those available
for measurements in the TMLs/Measurements dialog. When making bulk entries, you
can quickly input data into a grid that provides a row for each of the assets TMLs. If
the asset consists of subcomponents, then its TMLs are grouped for each TML Group.
The measurement grid is auto-populated with current information for the asset, and the
enabled fields can be edited.
Entering Bulk Measurements
View below the Inspection Information section of the Measurement Data Entry form.
The following fields are auto-populated with historical data for each datapoint in the
Measurements grid. This information serves as a reference for the user who is entering new
measurements:
TML ID
Last Measurement Value (Millimeters)
Last Measurement Date
Base Measurement Date
Base Measurement Value (Millimeters)
Minimum Thickness (Millimeters)
As the user types a Measurement Value (Millimeters) for each of the TMLs, the Measurement
Date Taken value is auto-populated, based on the corresponding value in the Inspection
Information section.

Scenario: You are going to use a Krautkramer-Branson DMS2 datalogger to record
measurements for Piping Circuit 19-001-001. Assuming you have connected your datalogger to
the appropriate COM port of your PC, you are ready to upload TML information from the
Meridium database to the datalogger.

connected to a datalogger.
Scenario: You have recorded measurements in the field using the DMS2 datalogger. You have
returned to the office and connected the datalogger to the appropriate COM port. You are now
ready to download the Measurements from the datalogger to the Meridium database.

4.2 Viewing the UT Analysis Section
1)
Continuing from the previous lesson, examine the values listed in the UT
Analysis section.
Controlling Corrosion Rate The current Corrosion Rate for the TML, by virtue of
being the greatest of the three calculated Corrosion Rates: Short Term, Long Term, and
Least Squares Corrosion Rate. If Corrosion Rates cannot be calculated, then they will
be set to the Minimum Corrosion Rate, as defined in the TML Analysis Settings.
Scheduled Next Inspection Date This value is set to the Interval Next Inspection
Date, the Factor Remaining Life Date, the Projected T-Min Date, or nothing, depending
upon the Projected T-Min Date value and how the Asset Analysis Settings have been
configured.
Projected T-Min Date The date on which a TML will reach Minimum Thickness,
calculated based upon the Current Corrosion Rate and the current T-Min value.
Estimated Remaining Life From Today How long the Asset will be in service
beyond today, based on the current date and the Remaining Life that was calculated for
the Last Measurement Date. This calculated value is provided for reference purposes
and is not stored in the database.
Maximum Historical Corrosion Rate The highest Corrosion Rate that has been
recorded for a TML, over its life. With respect to an Asset, the Maximum Historical
Corrosion Rate is the highest Maximum Historical Corrosion Rate for all the TMLs
that are linked to it.
TMLs Below T-Min A list of any TML records that have a linked Thickness
Measurement record with a Measurement Value that is less than the Minimum
Thickness value listed on the TML record.
