Survey of the main characteristics and technical aspects

Design and allocate all project structures on a

Nghe An Province, Vietnam TH True Milk Project
Goal To set into operation in a relatively short time a very large scale dairy project
for supplying top-quality raw milk to THs milk processing plant
Challenges

To build farm structures and to procure all necessary supplies for 19,000 heifers, which
were brought from New Zealand

To ensure proper herd health in a country plagued by endemic cattle diseases

To cope with very hot, humid weather

To train hundreds of local people (with no background in dairy farming) for a wide range
of positions (managers, supervisors, workers)

To grow forage of proper quality in harsh tropical conditions

Stalls: 840 (7 twinned 2x30 milking parlors)

Size: 7 farms, 15,000 cows and 14,000 heifers

Results
TH True Milk turned out to be the leading supplier of top-quality milk
products in Vietnam.
The more than 1,200 persons without previous experience in dairy farming
are now successfully running a huge dairy project. Following the success of
this project, TH has plans to expand activities throughout Vietnam and in
other countries. Today, five years after the project kickoff, TH continues
its close relationship with Afimilk, its trusted partner.

Ningxia Province, China TianNing Farm

Goal To set up a modern, high-tech dairy farm to produce top-quality raw milk for Tianyou Dairy Co.
Challenges

To design and build adequate farm structures in a region of northern China where
temperatures can vary from -20 C in the winter to 30 C in the summer

To train hundreds of local people (with minimal, if any, background in modern, large-scale
dairy farming) for a wide range of positions (managers, supervisors, workers)

Size: 3,820 cows and 3,000 heifers; initial
herd from Australia and Uruguay

Average annual milk production:

11,000 L/cow/year
Milk production (2nd year of operation):
34.3 L/cow/day

Results
TianNing Farm exceeded the original target for milk yields;
milk quality complies with the highest standards, and herd health has
been excellent.
Under the auspices of the China Dairy Association, TianNing and Afimilk
established the first institute for training farm managers in China, which is
located close to the farm.
TianNings owner, the Chongqing Agriculture Investment Company,
is currently building a new farm in Xian, which will be equipped with
Afimilk components and herd management system.

Dumas, Texas, United States Faria Brothers Dairy

Goal To manage one of the largest herds in the world
Challenge
To install an online system that enables accurate, precise management of 40,000 cows at a time
By the numbers*
Size: 40,000 cows, milked twice daily
Stalls: 5 rotary parlors with 106 milking points;
new cow enters every 4.5 seconds

Harvesting 1 million L/fresh milk/day (milk flushed

directly from milking parlor to milk trucks)
3-way automatic sorting gates controlled by
AfiFarm system at the exit of each parlor

Results
Faria Brothers Dairy has set world records for efficiency in milk production.
The Afimilk system has been a critical tool for managing the huge herd
effectively, at an incredible pace, without delays or failures.
