Executive summary
Results of a controlled experiment on the role of trainee in the consumer
choice process showed that market development was a dominant choice
heuristic among awareness- group subjects. Subjects with no security
equipments awareness tended to sample more brands and selected the
high-quality brand on the final choice significantly more often than those
with locals. Thus, when quality differences exist among competing brands,
consumers may "pay a price" for employing simple choice heuristics such
as brand awareness in the interest of economizing time and effort.
However, building business is a viable strategy for advertising aimed at
increasing brand-choice probabilities. Business can be developed by
showing a consumer the brand and asking whether or not they knew of it
beforehand. However, in common market research practice a variety of
recognition and recall measures of brand awareness are employed all of
which test the brand name's association to a product category cue, this
came about because most market research in the 20th Century was
conducted by post or telephone, actually showing the brand to consumers
usually required more expensive face-to-face interviews (until web-based
interviews became possible). This has led many textbooks to conceptualize
business ways simply as its measures, that is, knowledge that the brand is
a member of a particular product category. Market development consists of
both brand recognition, which is the ability of consumers to confirm that
they have previously been exposed to your brand, and brand recall, which
reflects the ability of consumers to name your brand when given the
product category, category need, or some other similar cue. Corporate
success depends upon having and retaining talented people. This is true
today as it has always been. The shortage of such people is widely

accepted and marketing, at long last, is beginning to be recognized as part


of the solution and hence the total investment in marketing is on the rise.
This is true for all organizations. There really is no alternative than to make
sure that human skill so vital to the corporate success are recognized,
harnessed, developed and suitably maintained. Marketing is not however,
one one-off investment. It is a continuing investment. Not only is it
needed to create the skilled workforce, but also maintain the high levels of
skills demanded by the ever changing, highly dynamic work place.
Marketing

essential

because

technology

is

developing

continuously and at a fast rate. Systems and practices get outdated


soon due to new discoveries in technology, including technical,
managerial and behavioral aspects. Organizations, which do not
develop

mechanisms

to

catch

up

with

and

use

the

growing

technology, soon become outdated. However, developing individuals


in the organization can contribute to the effectiveness of the
organization. There has been in some quarters criticism of marketing and
it is often argued that personnel can acquire administrative capabilities and
work skills through apprenticeship capabilities and work skills through
apprenticeship rather than through formal marketing. While the marketing
cannot by itself guarantee the success of a development programme, its
untrained personnel are unlikely to prove effective. It is in this context that
expert; administrators and planners greatly appreciate the relevance of
marketing in development process.

PREFACE

Internship was a stepping step in practical life, through which I learnt a lot
and it has aided me in being well equipped with valuable experience that
would help me once I enter the professional life almost after the
completion of my studies. I worked in Foresight Server & Safety Systems
Pvt. Ltd as a Trainee Marketing Associate. My association with this
company was being a part of the Information Technology Industry. It was a
great experience for me and it helped me in realizing where my potential
lies. What I learnt over the weeks was how to get along with the people
that I have to work with everyday, building relationships
building

confidence

and

improving

with

people,

my communication skills. This

internship has also prepared me for my future career in Information


Technology industry so this internship has helped me a great deal. The
experience has taught me responsibility,

teamwork and how to handle

people in tough social situations.


Even though the nature of work was quite basic as Trainee but I learnt a
lot for my upcoming professional life and find the internship in the best
benefit of myself. I got marketing assessments in the marketing
department which developed a maiden attempt towards my future in this
industry.

Introduction to the Industry

Security is a top priority in the


financial industry to ensure the
security of customer assets and
information and the efficient, reliable
execution of safety within markets.
In todays interconnected and digital world, business leaders must be more
aware of the diverse cyber threats their business faces and be proactive in
protecting their clients, data, networks and operations from theft,
disruption and destruction. From criminals seeking financial gain to nation
states committing corporate espionage or seeking to dislocate markets,
cyber threat actors are becoming more sophisticated in their attack
methods, making security an area of risk that must be actively managed by
firms similar to other areas of risks.
While distributed denial-of-service attacks on large financial institutions are
most often reported in headlines, cybercrime involves protecting more than
a businesss individual technology systems. As evident in recent headlines,
breaches in third-party service providers, can create detrimental issues for
the firms that rely on their services. In addition, as recent incidents have
made apparent, although cyber crime can come in the form of complex
computer code, businesses must be aware of both the technical aspects of
the threat externally as well as the threat of insiders committing or
enabling cyber attacks.
The IT infrastructure in financial services serves as technology leverage,
as the Atlantic Council puts it creating tremendous efficiencies but with
increasing risk. The destruction of financial data or the disruption of
markets would have a rippling effect on other domestic sectors and
industries, as well as global markets. In that light, President Mukherji has

expressed that the cyber threat is one of the most serious economic and
national security challenges we face as a nation and that India's
economic prosperity in the 21st century will depend on security.
Position
The financial industry is committed to furthering the development of
industry-wide security initiatives that protect our clients and critical
business infrastructure, improve data sharing between public and private
entities and safeguard customer information. An effective and efficient
security policy will be achieved most easily through a coordinated effort
among industry members that leverages the extensive investments already
made as the industry continues to actively manage cyber risk and maintain
safe and secure financial networks. Foresight is actively engaged in
coordinating the effort to support a safe, secure information infrastructure
which provides security of customer information and efficient, reliable
execution of transactions. Foresight is continually working with industry and
government leaders to identify and communicate cyber security best
practices for firms of all sizes and capabilities and educate the industry as
to the evolving threats and appropriate responses.

Evolution of Marketing
At the beginning of the century, social life was mostly local. It was followed
by a period in which commodities were produced on a mass scale.
Consumer Marketing operated on mass marketing principles and business
primarily concerned itself with how to build the best sales force. At the end
of the century, there is an emerging global culture. The major driver of
these changes is technology. Technological change has moved steadily
back focusing on the individual. These changes shape the possibility and

conduct of business. Marketing is especially tied to communication and


transportation revolution. As the tools and reach of marketing increase, the
job and responsibilities of marketers have evolved with them.
Kotler formalized this evolution with his book "Marketing Management." His
key stages are production, sales and brand management. Each of these is
strongly motivated by technological opportunities, which permit new
methods and new opportunities. A fourth stage, a focus on the individual
customer, is also important. As the new technology of the Internet
develops, it reinforces the new marketing emphasis - which in many ways
is a return to business at the turn of the century.
In todays technology driven world, a new fast paced digital economy is
emerging. In the near future, it wouldnt be surprising to see that there are
companies that exist only inside computer networks. Most business
transactions will be made electronically, directly from the producer to the
consumer,

himself from a wide array of parts provided by the company. It is ecommerce that is changing the way products and services are conceived,

that it is much cheaper; it allows vast coverage and helps in serving the
customer better.

7 P's of Marketing on the Internet

The four P's - Product, Price, Place and Promotion have long been
associated with marketing, but things have changed on the Internet. So
along with a change in the nature of the four Ps there are three new Ps
which are relevant to the internet marketer.
The Product on the Internet usually changes form online, and the user
experiences it electronically, in the form of text, images and multimedia.
Physical goods are usually presented in the form of a detailed online
catalogue that the customer can browse through. Technology allows the
user to virtually touch and feel the product on the Internet - rotate it, zoom
in or zoom out and even visualize the product in different configurations
and combination. The example of the above can be seen at dell.com where
the company offers the user to virtually feel every aspect of their product
before they go into a buy decision. Content and software are two avatars of
digitized products that can be even distributed over the Internet. On the
Internet, E-marketing will be based more on the product qualities rather
than on the price. Every company will be able to bring down the cost of its
products and hence competition will not be on price. It will rather be on the
uniqueness of the product. To be able to attract the customers and retain
them, the company will have to provide nouvelle and distinct products that
forces the net users to purchase and come back for more.
The Price has been drastically changed over the Internet. It lets the buyer
decides the price. Also it gives the buyers information about multiple sellers
selling the same product. It leads to best possible deal for the buyers in

terms of price. A website named Priceline.com is extremely popular as its


compares the price of many airlines and offers the least price to the buyer.
The very famous bazee.com now known as eBay. in follows the same
principles. Pricing is dynamic over the Internet.
The Place revolves around setting up of a marketing channel to reach the
customer. Internet serves as a direct marketing channel that allows the
producer to reach the customer directly. The elimination of the intermediate
channel allows the producer to pass the reduced distribution cost to the
customer in the form of discounts. Dell Computers have used this strategy
very effectively and hence they have been able to reduce their prices of
their laptops drastically and reaped huge profits.
Promotion is extremely necessary to entice the customer to its website,
as there are currently more than one billion web pages. Promoting a
website includes both online and offline strategies. Online strategies
include search engine optimization, banner ads, multiple points of entry,
viral marketing, strategic partnership and affiliate marketing. Presently, the
cyberspace is already cluttered with thousands of sites probably selling
similar products. For the customers to know of the Companys existence
and to garner information on the kind of products or services that the
company is offering, promotion has to be carried out. There can be traded
links or banner advertisements for the same. Also the traditional mediums
like print, outdoor advertising and television can be used to spread
awareness. Email campaigns and spamming the Chat rooms on almost
every server has been exploited to the maximum for the cause of
promoting their website.

Presentation The presentation of the online business needs to have an


easy to use navigation. The look and the feel of the web site should be
based on corporate logos and standards. About 80% of the people read
only 20% of the web page. Therefore, the web page should not be cluttered
with a lot of information. Also, simple but powerful navigational aids on all
web pages like search engines make it easy for customer to find their way
around. The principle of K.I.S.S ( Keep it simple stupid ) is the most
important factor that has to be considered while presenting the online
business
Processes Customer supports needs to be integrated into the online web
site. A sales service that will be able to answer the questions of their
customers fast and in a reliable manner is necessary. To further enhance
after sales service, customers must be able to find out about their order
status after the sale has been made. For e.g. FedEx (www.fedex.com), the
overnight Courier Company allows its customers to keep track of the parcel
and they are well informed about the present whereabouts of their
package. Similar variants have been used by the Govt of India for its Speed
post and Registered Ad services where you can keep a track of your post by
entering the code that has been issued to you.
Personalization Using the latest software from Broad-Vision and others, it
is possible to customize the entire web site for every single user, without
any additional costs. The mass customization allows the company to create
web pages products and services that suit the requirement of the user. A
customized web page does not only include the preferred layout of the
customer but also a pre selection of goods the customer may be interested
in. For e.g. Yahoo! (www.yahoo.co.in) entered the Indian cyberspace and
started its personalized services. A registered user of Yahoo can now
personalize the front page with all the information he needs. He can read

the news of the world, add a tax calculator, see the weather forecasts of his
city and listen to his favorite songs and all this simultaneously.

offering for retail customers, the NOC also offers support for off-hours
installations and operational projects. The NOC expands the end-users
service and support team as the first point of escalation for Foresight
technicians while on-site, able to assist with remote installations to reduce
labor costs for the customer. The NOC can monitor the health of systems
remotely and in real-time, notifying the customer if there is an issue before
they even realize it minimizing down-time and ultimately loss. Invaluable
troubleshooting, system tuning and maintenance can also all be performed
remotely at the NOC to promote immediate, cost-effective relief should
system maintenance be required. Internship is a part of our M.B.A
program and it is mandatory. It is a source of good learning and it is
a basic element of a students career which applies the theoretical
knowledge into practical work. Internships are a great way to learn

about an occupation and get work experience at the same time.


Internship enables a person to develop his skills and abilities that
are directly applicable to his career. It gives an insight from a
students career to a professional career. I wanted to see for myself
whether my academic progress relates to offi cial work or not, and
so it lead me to Foresight Technologies.

Employees satisfaction level should increase by appraising

them at the spot and by giving them different incentives like bonuses etc.

The FST already has better schemes for buyers. But there is a

need to launch some more and attractive schemes for the people in order
to facilitate them.

There is a need for continuous advertisement to aware the people

about the company in order to attract the customers towards it.

The reception/counter of the company is considered as the alpha

and omega of industrial business. Customer satisfied with the counter


service proves an asset to the organization. Therefore, utmost care
should be taken while dealing with the customers at the counter. The
staff at the counter must be highly skilled and trained according to the
changing trends of the world.

Conclusion

The internship completed at Marketing Department of FORSIGHT was a


great experience for me. I have gained a lot of knowledge, practice and
opportunities from this internship. It has given me practical experience to
apply all the theory I have learnt through my academics. It was my first
experience in the professional world and I learnt a lot both on personal and
professional basis.
The internship made it clear that I have all the capabilities in me to excel
in my career, the positive remarks which were given to me by my
supervisor are the result of the efforts that were put in. It gave me a lot of
confidence and increased my moral. I thank Foresight Server for giving me
this opportunity.
Further, I also concluded that 100 percent concentration, full care,
analytical, descriptive and communication skills are the key prerequisites
for working in an industry. Anyhow, precisely speaking this internship of
two months is memorable period for me during which I availed the
opportunity to flourish my communication skills, polish my capabilities and
abilities, upgrade my knowledge about industrial sector and broaden my
vision and exposure towards practical life.
