UNIT SCHEME OF WORK TEMPLATE

A Scheme of Work is a plan for the delivery of the curriculum of a unit. In conjunction with the validated Unit Specification, it is an
aide memoire for course teams as to:

• The teaching and activity associated with the unit (on a week by week basis)
• Basic information for lesson planning particular activities (curriculum areas/topics/activities to be included)
• The staff and resource requirements of the unit as a whole and particular activities within it.
• The timetabling requirements of the unit

A. Briefing Notes for Unit Staff

In this section, subject leaders can put brief notes for sessional and other staff involved in delivering and supporting the unit.
Typically this might include information about the level of the students’ prior knowledge and the level attainment expected by the
end of the unit. It might note any differentiation which may exist within the group of students and how this should be addressed in
learning and teaching. You might explain any relationship with other units, any joint delivery or indeed background which would
help them understand their delivery tasks within the unit.

Unit planners should remember that the total duration of sessions should add up to the contact hours indicated in the validated unit
