l

Welcome to

Whitcliffe Mount

Staff and students...

one cohesive community.
Ofsted

I joined the school as Headteacher in September 2013 and I can honestly say it is a fantastic
place to work both the staff and students have made me feel extremely welcome! We are
proud of our track record of ensuring our students enjoy their time at school and achieve
highly so that we can celebrate their successes.
In December 2013 we were visited by Ofsted, who judged us as being good across the
board. The Ofsted team spoke very highly of our students who were fantastic ambassadors
for Whitcliffe Mount during the inspection, and we were proud to receive feedback on our
students excellent behaviour, their active participation in a range of school activities and
clubs, the respect they show to others and the welcoming environment. Our students spoke
openly with inspectors explaining they felt safe and happy and that they were making good
progress at Whitcliffe Mount.
We have always celebrated our students talents and achievements both academically and
socially. Nevertheless, it is fantastic to have this endorsed by Ofsted.

An incredible learning journey

We are a happy school where lessons are
stimulating and fun.
A flexible and inclusive curriculum offers
a wide variety of GCSEs, ranging from
traditional academic subjects to vocational
courses and work-related programmes.
Our specialist teachers aim to provide a
high quality and creative education that
challenges, inspires and meets the individual
needs and abilities of all our students. Above
all, they relish the opportunity to help each
student achieve their best.
We are also committed to safeguarding and
promoting the welfare of all our students
by encouraging them to embrace a healthy
lifestyle and teaching them how to stay
safe, for example, on the internet or when
travelling to and from school.

Our excellent pastoral system ensures that before students

continue their learning journey with us, they get to know
each other and their teachers through an extensive and
enjoyable series of transition activities.
When students arrive at Whitcliffe Mount, they are placed in
one of five Houses Clough, Grylls, Mowat, Wadsworth and
Whiteley. House competitions take place throughout the
year, and help to promote a sense of belonging and
an element of healthy competition.
Elected students represent their Houses at School
Council Meetings, where issues relevant to student life are
discussed. Many projects implemented at Whitcliffe Mount
are a result of the ideas put forward by students.
A strong partnership between home and school is also vital
to our childrens success. We value the support of parents
and carers, who play an important role in ensuring their
children attend school regularly, behave well and work hard.

The school has made good links

with primary feeder schools and
provides opportunities to smooth
the entry of students to secondary
education so they settle in quickly.

Students feel safe and

behave well in lessons
and around the school.
This creates a welcoming
environment that
promotes learning.

One of the most important lessons we teach

our students is that if they work hard, follow
their dreams and aim high, they can achieve
whatever they put their minds to.
Our emphasis on academic success is
complemented by a strong tradition of
extra-curricular clubs and activities. These
range from sports including boys and
girls football, rugby, gymnastics, athletics
and table tennis to Drama, debating, choir,
photography and cooking the list is endless.
There are also opportunities to take part in
fundraising events, enterprise activities and
national initiatives, including World Book Day
and the Duke of Edinburghs Award scheme.
Trips, visits and residentials also help to
bring the curriculum to life and provide our
students with a well-rounded education.

Teachers have positive

relationships with students
and set high expectations
for what they can achieve.

ambassadors, and we enjoy celebrating

our students leave Whitcliffe Mount.
We want to give them a thirst for
knowledge and a love of learning that
will last a lifetime. Our innovative careers

prepare students for university, Further
