Objectives (5b):

concepts)

Children of this era are becoming so tech savvy at such young ages now. I thought
that introducing them to what you can do with a phone by aiming it a jumbled
looking box can provide a picture.

1. Pictures can describe things

2. QR Codes show pictures
1. Children will be able to look at pictures and describe what is in them.
2. Children will be able to learn that QR Codes can represents pictures.

By participating in
this activity, the child
may begin to:

Preparation of
materials and
environment
(1a), (1c), (6b):

What preparation is needed?

Printing out all of the QR Codes, and making sure the PowerPoint is ready to be
shown to the children.
What materials will be used?
iPhone, computer, QR Codes on paper, slide show, padlet
How will the learning environment be set up?
The QR Code hunt will be all around the school, so we need to tape them up in the
hallways.

Preparation of safe environment (1a), (1c):

Preventing problems and guidance concerns:
Children not being able to see the picture on the phone and every child not getting a turn to use the phone
Safety considerations:
Not many because nothing is being thrown or kicked around, and there are no choking hazards either.

How these will be addressed:

Making sure each child gets a turn to look at the phone and also use the phone to read a QR Code.

Procedure (1c), (SS123):
Introduction/motivator (What you will actually say/do with to encourage childrens participation? Be
specific.)
Today we are going to do a game around the school. We will learn about animals but we are going to hunt
for them. We arent looking for the animals themselves, we will be looking for what is called a QR Code.
We will then take the iPhone to read the code and see the picture.
Steps:
What will the teacher do/say? What will the children do during the activity?
(Be sure to acknowledge how/when the concepts and objectives come to fruition in these steps.)
For the first activity we will have a slide show PowerPoint with pictures of the animals we will be looking
for. When we go through the slide show there is a description about each animal. This will allow the
children to talk about them when they go on the hunt and find that animal.
The Second activity will be the QR Code hunt. Children will be supervised by a teacher and will go all
around the building looking for QR Codes. When a child finds one, each child will get a turn taking the
phone and reading the QR Code. When the picture pops up, the teacher will ask what they remember
about that animal.
The last activity would be to do a Padlet. The teacher will call over every child and ask them what they
learned. Since the child cant type yet the teacher will type out their responses.
Open-ended Questions (Descriptive language statements for Infant/Toddler Plan):
Can you tell me what you learned about that animal?
What did you learn today?
Scaffolding Comments:
I see that you are having trouble holding the iPhone, try holding it with two hands.
I saw that you didnt really like participating in the activity, can you maybe tell me what you would like to
do.
Vocabulary:
QR Code, Animal names
Closing (1c):

Today we have learned that QR Codes are a way to hide pictures inside them. We
also discussed different types of animals and learned about them.

Transition:

When the activity is finished children will be able to go outside and have some
fun.

End of activity and

individual clean up:

A teacher and a few children will walk around and take the QR Codes down off the
wall in the school.

Statement that
summarizes childrens
experience
What will you do/say to
support children as they
finish this experience?

What will you and/or the

children need to do to
clean up?
