Small Cell RF deployment Process

3 Scenarios are considered:
Coverage only :
Coverage is not ensured through the underlay Macro (indoor/outdoor)
Small Cells are used to fill coverage holes

Capacity only :
Coverage is ensured through the underlay Macro (indoor/outdoor)
Small Cells are used to offload the Macro and provide additional resources and/or improve the
quality of experience

Coverage and Capacity

Coverage is not ensured through the underlay Macro (indoor/outdoor)
The areas has a high user density or high foot fall.

The process ensures that

Experience from more complex deployments is feedback to improve similar deployments in
the future.
Guidelines can by dynamically updated

SHUNTER
Based on the input from the Customer, an initial classification is made
between the different projects.

The classification will rely on the number of Small Cells which are to
deployed and on knowledge gained from already studied scenarios.

Three choices are offered:

GREEN (couple of Small Cells)
YELLOW (few Small Cells)
RED (many Small Cells)

HOW TO ESTIMATE THE # OF SMALL CELLS?

In a second step, the number of users that can be supported using the
Number of Small Cells for Coverage is to be calculated.

In the case it is below the number of users in the Enterprise, then the
case will be classified as
GREEN if the number of Small Cells is between 1-2 (or home cell)
YELLOW if the number of Small Cells is between 3 and 5 (5 being the number of
PSC allowed for Small Cells)

In any other cases, the classification will be RED

Indoor Femto Cell Coverage design

Indoor RF design in shared carrier is driven by
Macro best server signal strength

To perform a RF design it is mandatory to evaluate this, to ensure indoor

layer must be above the highest macro RSCP value measured in indoor to
ensure the dominance

RSSI of macro layer in indoor

In some cases generally for high floor levels, macro radio quality can be
very poor as a high number of servers is detected, and it is very difficult to
match good macro RF design over all floors and alos in outdoor

HOW TO ESTIMATE THE # OF SMALL CELLS?

Indoor COVERAGE SCENARIO (dedicated carrier)
Compare to the shared carrier solution, there is nomore neighboring and
interference impact on outdoor network
The main challenge is to keep coverage inside the building avoiding outdoor UE to
be able to connect to Femto network

ALCATEL-LUCENT INTERNAL PROPRIETARY USE PURSUANT TO COMPANY INSTRUCTION

Inter-Femto Cells distance

Indoor COVERAGE SCENARIO
Whatever indoor or outdoor femto deployment, distance between femto
depends essentially on service requested, or on the capacity required in
term of users/m2 which should be supported

If limitation is only coverage then inter small cell distance should be 2

times cell radius required to support service requested at cell edge

If capacity is the most constraining criterion then femto density should

be enough to support user desnity. In case for indoor, femto power
should be 20 mW or 100 mW

In indoor the minimum distance between small cells should be 10m,

having a lower distance may be induce too high inter-fmeto cell
interference

Femto Outdoor deployment

Outdoor deployment 2 scenarios are possible

Femto cells are deployed on a dedicated carrier never resued by macrocell layer. There is no risk of interference, so no constraints

Femto cells are deployed in the spot area, but the carrier should be reused by the macro cell layer. A buffer zone should be applied in order to
avoid macro-layer interfering small cells. To avoid potential interference,
the channel can be re-used on macro cells whose RSCP received
levelanywhere in small cell cluster respects
Macro-cell RSCP < Femto RSCP - 10

ALCATEL-LUCENT INTERNAL PROPRIETARY USE PURSUANT TO COMPANY INSTRUCTION

Femto Outdoor deployment

Shared Carrier Outdoor Femto deployment

To avoid DL interference from macro-cells layers in shared carrier

conditions, it is necessary to position outdoor femto cells in areas where
macro cells RSCP is lower than below recommendation at Femto position
to obtain at least 50 m Femto cell radius as best server
