Brochure
Description:
This is a brochure I created to invite people to join Patrick for his book reading of The Name of
the Wind at Barnes & Noble.

Objectives:
Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality images, not including the logo.
One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the
cutout shape of the image.
Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three paragraphs, headers, and
subheaders.
Process:
Going into Adobe InDesign, I created the offset layout using ruler guides to mark where the folds
would be. I had a basic idea about the written content, so I created the draft using only 4 or 5
images and some filler text for where I knew there would be text present. I also created a logo for
Patrick Rothfuss (the author) in Illustrator before hand and that was part of the first draft. Next, I
wrote the content in a Word document and replaced the filler text with this. For the text, I created
new paragraph styles, so it would appear as I wanted it. Then, I used Photoshop to edit a couple of
the images, including the one of the mandolin (instrument) and the image of Kvothe on the inside
of the brochure. Using the Quick Selection Tool, I selected only the pieces of the image that I
wanted and placed them back into my brochure in InDesign. I wrapped the text around the image
of Kvothe on the inside, among a few other adjustments and this is the end result.

This is a logo for a company called Mystery House, a place you go to solve mysteries for fun.

Objectives:
Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that will
appeal to the audience. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs.
Market research: gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals most to
them.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No Illustrator pre-fabricated
flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or live-tracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide to
trace it with the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)
Process:
First I had to come up with an idea. When I decided on a company to create a logo for, I thought
of a couple different ideas that could work for a logo. I created three completely different logos
in Adobe Illustrator. Next, I got some feedback from a couple different people, and asked twelve
different people which one was their favorite. Once I had gotten the feedback, I went with the logo
that people liked the most and I refined it, mixing some of my ideas together.

Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and audience.
Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs, including
Photoshop.
Process:
First I scanned an image from a magazine and made sure to scan it at a high quality of 300 pixels
per inch. Then I used the image as the background for my event add. I created a document in
Microsoft Word 2011 and went on to create the title and the text boxes.

Objectives:
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links in InDesign
intact.
Process:
First, I sketched a few designs. Then I chose one designed it in Adobe InDesign. I used repetition
of the black boxes to tie it together and alignment of the paragraphs and logo to keep it in order.

Objectives:
Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so the long side is 300 500
pixels.
Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target
audience. (Minimum of 200 words. Include rationale for colors, appeal to target audience,
design skills, etc,)
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Include all required tags Doctype (provided),
html, head, title, meta charset (provided), body, h1, h2, p, ol or ul (with li tags), img, br, and a
link to blog)
Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. (Customize the provided CSS provided to format the
HTML to complement the logo design. Change at least the following: The h1 text color &
h1 background color, font colors for the paragraphs & list items, the background color, font
families and add at least one css comment.)
Open the HTML page in a web browser and capture a quality screen shot with .5 inch margins
for printing.
Process:
I used a program called TextWrangler. It is a text editor that allows a person to write using HTML
and CSS codes. I inserted my logo image through Photoshop and was also able to match the colors
of my webpage to my logo by using the eye dropper tool.

okay on business card and letterhead as additional design elements. Letterhead should be 8.5
x 11, full-bleed optional, but trim only .125. Business card should be 3.5 x 2 and printed above
center on a vertical page.
Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of white space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, website, and email on each piece. Use
periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number; no parentheses/ hyphens.
Process:
First I thought of a design that would be appealing to people that enjoy weapons, then I created
the logo in Illustrator. I then put my logo in an Adobe InDesign document. These documents
were all held in the same file so that they would be linked. I then designed the letterhead in Adobe
InDesign.

Description:
This is a photo that I took and later designed in Photoshop with an inspirational quote from
Robert Browning.

First I took some pictures with a camera that I rented from the library. I took several pictures
and with this picture I was going for a foreground focus. When I decided on this picture, I used
Photoshop to make this design.
