INTRODUCTION
Engineering is the profession in which the knowledge of the mathematical and
natural sciences gained by study, experience, and practice is applied with judgment to
develop ways to utilize economically the materials and forces of nature for the benefit of
mankind (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology ). It is also defined as the
art or science of making practical application of the knowledge of pure sciences
(Florman, S.). Engineering refers to the practice of organizing the design and
construction of any artifice which transforms the physical world around us to meet some
recognized need (Rogers, G.F.C.). Invention (engineering) causes things to come into
existence from ideas, makes the world conform to thought; whereas science, by
deriving ideas from observation, makes thought conform to existence ( Mitcham, C.)
Management is the process of reaching organizational goals by working with and
through people and other organizational resources. Planning, organizing, influencing
and controlling are some of the basic management functions that make up the
management process. (managementinnovations.wordpress.com)

According to the editorial Editorial: Research and Education Characteristics of

the Engineering Management Discipline, Engineering Management is the discipline
that addresses making and implementing decisions for strategic and operational
leadership in current and emerging technologies and their impact on interrelated
systems.
Mr. Mallari, a businessman, goal is to develop an electronic shop which he has
been aspiring for years. Mr. Mallaris concern is about the courses to be chosen by his
three sons in order to take over or help him in the electronic shop once it has been built.
BODY
Mrs. Cynthia Reyes, Talavera branch manager of the Landbank of the Philippines
advised as the concern of Mr. Mallari was heard that it would be most applicable for his
sons to take engineering courses relating to electronics or electronics communication.
She also said that all of the three could take the same courses for they differ in age and
one would take over as another one ages. She says that management of a small
electronic shop should be easy so it is not a mandate for Mr. Mallaris children to get a
course about accountancy or business administration.
Engr. Emiterio M. Pallarca, President/ Chief Executive officer of the Montessori
School of Jaen said that electrical engineering or electrical and computer engineering
would be good courses for Mr. Mallaris sons to take, any of the two, because there is
no assurance that all would excel in the same course. If Mr. Mallari, as he said has trust
to his sons, they could take each of the course electronic communication engineering

technology, electrical and computer engineering and electronics and communications

engineering for their individual forte.
Conclusion and Recommendation
In order for Mr. Mallari and his sons to be successful as the successor or
electronic shop carriers, his sons should take engineering courses like Electronic
Communication Engineering Technology or some other related for it can surely help and
give progress to their business. Electronic Communication Engineering Technology is
more related to their business about manufacturing electronic parts. Also if Mr. Mallari
could take the risk, accountancy, management and industrial engineering would also be
applicable if he would have to develop an industry of electronic parts and various
related appliances.
