Logos
Description: Create an original logo for a made up company.
Programs used: Adobe Illustrator
Date: 10/31/15
Course: Comm 130 Section 3
Instructor: Brother Pingel
Objectives: To create a logo that can be universal with different color schemes.
Process: I first sketched out different logo ideas and then chose my top three
favorites and created them in Adobe Indesign. I then took a vote on which one of
the three design was the most popular. Then I used that logo with different colors.
While working on this project I used different fonts that would appeal to my audience
and work with the design. I used layering on the burger to put each food together
and I wanted the burger to stand out so I added different colors to it and made
the logo fun. I also aligned the burger with the rest of the word burger. In my last
step I took the winning logo and put it with a different font color and background.
Event Ad
Description: Most people and companies dont have all design programs so I
used Microsoft Office Word.
Process: I first scanned the image of the 3 boys and then started thinking of my
color scheme. I then added boxes and typed out what I wanted the Ad to say.
The blue boxes are identical to add repetition. I then tried different fonts to see
which one would work best. After I aligned the titles with each other and the body
copy at the bottom using the ruler on Microsoft Word. I also aligned the body copy
with the date time and place. I used contrast to add value in the all of the text
boxes by making the boxes a lighter blue and then using a darker orange.

Business Card
Description: Create a business card for a made up company using a personally
created logo.
Process: I first created the logo on Illustrator. I used a square and rectangle for
the top of the dress and a square for the bottom. I then converted the square to
look like the bottom of a dress. Next I opened up Indesign and made two cards
3.5 x 2. I then placed my logo on the top of the front of my card and added my
business information. I contrasted my name in 12 point font with the body being in
8 point font. I added the light pink box to bring attention to my information. For the
back of my card I changed my font on my logo to white and placed it card.

edges. Next I added my information again making my name bigger. I then added a
light pink box on the bottom that matches my business card. I also added a indigo
line to bring emphasis to my name. I made that line on the bottom as well to bring
repetition and make my information on the bottom stand out.
Brochure
Description: A duplex printed brochure for fake clients to show how I can
advertise myself.
Process: I first created my logo in Illustrator. After I opened Indesign and started
my layout. I then placed my pictures in and wrote my body copy. Next I placed my
pictures, body copy, headings, and logo onto the appropriate fold. I used boxes
around the headings of each fold to bring repetition while bringing out every color
from my color scheme. For the jet ski I used Photoshop and the quick selection tool
to remove the background. I then used the refine mask tool. I then placed the jet
ski into Indesign and used the text wrap option around the alpha channel of the
jet ski.
Montage
Description: Learn to blend images together with a dominant spiritual message.
Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop
Date: 10/24/15
Course: Comm 130 Section 3
Instructor: Brother Pingel
Objectives: Showcase my masking skills to help convey my message.
Process: First I opened Photoshop placed my two images Jesus Christ and the
children, the hands, background and added a mask. Using 10% 20% opacity and
a white paint brush I painted the hard edges of the image so the background and
photo would blend. I repeated that process with the adult and child holding hands.
I left white space above and below the hands that helped simplify the photo. I
italicized and bold important words to put emphasis on them. Also I added a outer
glow and drop shadow around the quote to make it stand out and be legible.
Flier
Description: An informational flier for a Graduate Leadership Conference.
Programs Used: Adobe Indesign.
Date: 10/6/15
Course: Comm 130 Section 3
Instructor: Brother Pingel
Objectives: Incorporate basic InDesign skills to make a flier layout with the images
given.
Process: I first sketched out on paper potential layouts I wanted to use. I then
chose my favorite design and starting working in Adobe Indesign. I used the black
boxes at the top and bottom to bring in repetition. I used contrast in the graduate
leadership box to bring attention to the flier. By the bold and making the word
graduate the biggest I made it my vocal point for the intended audience. The right
space of my flier has white space in the body copy and I used small font to not
crowd the flier. For this flier I was given the logo, image, and content.
Photodesign
Description: Demonstrate good photo taking and editing skills.
Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop
Date: 10/17/15
Course: Comm 130 Section 3
Instructor: Brother Pingel
Objectives: Learn basic photography skills and be able to design in Photoshop.
Process: First I thought of different photos I could take and the color schemes I
would use from the Visual FOCUS book. I then went and took several photos on
a high quality camera. I chose a photo with good focus and use of light. I then
opened up Photoshop and edited features on the photo like sharpness, saturation,
light, and color balance. I added four rectangle boxes to add repetition in my
design. I aligned my words in my text to add flow. My piece flows nicely as I
wanted the ring to be the vocal point and then to flow to the text.
Web Page
Description: A web page designed to show and explain a logo I created.
Programs Used: Text Wrangler
Date: 11/20/15
Course: Comm 130, Section 3
Instructor: Brother Pingel
Objectives: Create a website review using css and html.
Process: I used text wrangler to host my HTML and CSS documents. I first made
my HTML and then inserted my CSS as a link in the HTML. It was interesting to
learn how the two programs work together. I was able to use the Photoshop eye
dropper tool to find the exact colors I needed so I could put the correct hex codes
into my CSS to match my logo. When I chose my fonts I put backups in case the
browser used doesnt have my first choice of font. For my background I found
a free image and inserted it as a jpeg into CSS and positioned it to the correct
position.
