Objectives

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.

Learn how to text wrap around an image.
Use paragraph styles in InDesign

Process

I began by first looking up a bunch of different ways to fold a brochure. I then

looked up photos that I wanted to use in my brochure to define the company
I was creating. While looking for photos, I found color-scheme photo which
helped me in creating my logo. I used Illustrator to create the six circles to
create my logo. I then used the eye dropper tool to get each of those colors
incorporated in the logo. After that, I opened my images in Photoshop and
edited all of them to bring out their best colors and to make them look more
enhanced. I used some scratch paper to draw up a sample of what I wanted
my brochure to look like so that I could see how it needed to be laid out in
InDesign. This is definitely took me the longest to do for the project. I kept
confusing myself and every time I would print out the brochure it would print out
upside down or the sides would never match up. After finally figuring it all out,
I started to place everything I had already created into my design. I created
the half circle at the top of my design by making a circle with the shape tool,
and then cutting it in half using the scissors tool. I also used the scissor tool
when I created the scalloped look on the back of my brochure. I used text wrap
around the two pictures in the inside of the brochure which I think caused a nice
flow in the text. I also practiced using paragraph styles throughout the body
copy.

Objectives

Size and optimze an original logo as a .png for a web page.

Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals
to a target audience.
Design a webpage using HTML to display a logo and content.
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding of CSS.
Identify hex colors for web design.
Compress multiple files in a ziped folder to attach as one file.

Process

This project was extremely time consuming. I created this webpage using
HTML/CSS codes in TextWrangler. I was shocked that I was able to create a
webpage using simple text editor. I first created my HTML. I then attached a
premade CSS document To get the same colors from my logo to my webpage,
I opened the logo in Photoshop and used the eyedropper tool. I then changed
my fonts to Franklin Gothic and Tahoma. For this project, I used TextWrangler

Sony CX5000 Camera

Adobe Photoshop

Objectives

Learn basic photography skills.

Use a gidital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Size and crop the image.
Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation levels.
Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image.
Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image.

Process

I first took a few photos with a Sony CX5000 camera so I had a choice of
options to pull from. After looking through my photos and using the color
wheel, I decided that this photo worked best with a split complementary color
theme. I uploaded the photo to Photoshop and used the editing techniques of
levels, vibrance, selective color, and sharpness. With each new edit I applied
to my photo, I would add a new layer in Photoshop in case if I later needed to
make changes. I then began to design my photo by adding a quote and used
repetition by using long bars with different colors from the photo. To do this,
I used the eye dropper tool so I could match the colors exactly. I was really
happy with how all of the colors tied together to fit with my split complementary
color theme.

Objectives

Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image.

Use the basic tools of Illustrator.

Process

I really enjoyed learning how to use Illustrator. I began by deciding that I wanted to create a logo for my dads company. I then started to play around with
different tools in Illustrator until I found what I thought looked appealing. I used
the shape tool to make the 3 long bars and I used the pen tool to create the
lines above and below epoxy floor coatings. I used the eye dropper took to
get the exact colors I wanted throughout the logo. I picked typography that was
clean and easy to read.

Objectives

Find, scan and import a high quality image.

Create a full-bleed design.
Use text boxes for layout in Word.
Insert and edit images in Word.

Process

I began by picking a photo out one of my cookbooks and scanned it onto the
computer. I then inserted 3 long rectangles and put them each at an angle. I
then changed the color of each rectangle to show my color scheme for the
project. I used repetition and unity by placing 3 more rectangles in the same
colors at the bottom corner of the page. I used a big, bold font to capture the
audiences attention and a thinner, appealing font for the body copy.

Objectives

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.

Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep
links in tact.

Process

I started by creating four different sketches for my design layout. I followed my

sketches and created my design in Adobe InDesign. I used the bold lettering in
the title to create contrast. I emphasized one word in my title by putting a black
box around it and changing the font color to white. By doing this, I created a
focal point for the overall flier that would grab the audiences attention. I used
small body copy for the information on the flier. The image, logo, and content
was given to me for this flier.

Objectives

Learn to manage Photoshop layers.

Learn to blend images together smoothly using masks.
Use filters.
Apply appropriate typography.

Process

I first looked up photos that correlated to my theme. I then opened all of the
photos in Photoshop. I dragged the photo of the passport to the background
photo and added a mask to it. I then used the brush and took away the excess
of the photo I didnt need with the black paint at 100% opacity. I then changed
the brush to 30% opacity and blended the photo with the background. I
continued to do this for the other two images, the globe and the airplane. I then
added text to the photo using an inspirational travel quote. I defined a few of
the key words in the quote by bolding the font and changing the font size.

Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead.
Use the basic tools of Illustrator and InDesign.

Process

I created everything using InDesign. I first created the bumble bee by using the
simple shape tool. I then used the pen tool to create the the lines following the
bee. I also used the pen tool to create the antennas. I first created my business
card by creating a box with the measurements given. I didnt want to shove
the text and the logo to the corners of the card, so I right aligned the text near
the logo and left aligned all of the contact information. I then lined up the text
to create a strong line to mend the two. I then used the shape tool to create
circles at the bottom of the card to add a sense of design to the project.

Process

When creating the letterhead, I took the same logo from the business card and
put it onto the project. I also added a yellow bar at the top of the page to add
style to the page. On the top right of the project I added the contact information
in the same font to match the business card. To tie the two projects together, I
added the black circles at the bottom of the letterhead to add design.
