3rd SMA Cup Karate Open Championship 2010

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATION


1. RULES

The 3rd SMA CUP 2010 will be conducted in accordance with the New Rules
(Version) 5.5) of the World Karate Federation (WKF), which was adopted on
January 2007 for Juniors & Cadets, whereby for children under 16 years, SMA
RULES will be adopted.

In case of a disagreement in the interpretation of rules, the English text of the


rules shall prevail. Any unforeseen incident not covered by the Rules shall be
dealt with accordingly in the following manner:

1.1 Technical questions shall be resolved in accordance with the WKF Rules.

1.2 Cases of general nature shall be resolved in accordance with the WKF
Statues and Rules (2009).

COMPETITION REGULATION
1. TECHNICAL ORGANIZATION

The SMA Organizing Committee is responsible for and full control of the technical
organization on the Karate competition, in consultation with the international
technical delegates when necessary and also might change the Senior Kumite
Event to the latest WKF rules and regulation.

2. DRAWING OF LOTS

The drawing of lots will be conducted by officials appointed by the Organizing


Committee for Karate. The draw will be computerized.

3. DURATION OF BOUT

The official duration of Kumite matches will be three (3) minutes for Men, two (2)
minutes for Women, Junior, Cadet and 12-13 years old and for under 12 years
will be 1.5 minutes.

4. DRESS CODE

All contestants and team officials (coaches, managers, etc), referees and
judges must wear the prescribed uniforms as defined in Appendix 1 of the WKF
Rules.

5. EXPENSES

5.1 Participation fee (USD50) per contestant per entry. (payment must be make
Together with the entry form by 31st March 2010.)

5.2 Air Fare – Each participant is responsible for airline ticket from and to
Singapore

6. SAFETY EQUIPMENT

6.1 WKF Mitts, WKF foot protection, face mask, woman chest guard for the
ladies and mouth guards are compulsory.

6.2 Mitts, mouth guard, belts and body protection (for women) shall be
provided by the athletes themselves.

6.3 Compulsory for all participants to use WKF Approved Gi in the


Championship. (pls refer to www.wkf.net for more information)

6.4 Under the new WKF rules and regulation, Cadet event is compulsory to use
Karate face mask, In order to avoid injury for the event, All Children to
Cadet’s events must put on the Karate Face Mask

7. SMA CUP COMPETITION REGULATION 2010

7.1 All entry forms and payments must be received by the organizing
Committee’s marketing company International Business Strategies Pte Ltd
on or before 15Th April 2010 (Late entry will not be entertain)

7.2 The competitor’s age must be the same as the age for the category
entered on the day of competition.

7.3 Each country or region may enter any number of teams in each category
and any number of individuals.

7.4 All Kumite contestants must wear gum shields and must supply their own red
and blue mitts and belts. Females should wear chest protector. Shin and
foot protection is compulsory.

7.5 All competitors are responsible for providing their own medical insurance.

7.6 The rules are the rules of the World Karate Federation, with some exceptions
as to weights, ages and categories. For children the rules will be
absolutely no face contact allowed.

7.7 Each participating country or group entered requested to supply referees or


judges to work in the Championship under a voluntary for the
Championship, Lunch & Dinner will be provided for the referees/table
official.

7.8 The person or persons organizing the entries for the group’s competitor
confirms that all competitors have been advised of the risks of
competition Karate and that they fully realize and accept these risks.

7.9 Current WKF rules do not allow women to wear head scarves. However in
order to maintain some uniformity we request the following; Competitors
and those wearing karate-gi should wear a plain, un-patterned, white
scarf. Referees, judges and officials and those wearing blazers should
have a plain, un-patterned, black (or navy blue) scarf.

4th June 2009 : (Conducted in the Tampines North Community Club Conference
Room)

5th June 2009 : 1200 hours – 1900 hours

VICTORY CEREMONIES

1.1 Victory Ceremonies

The Victory Ceremonies shall normally be held after the completing of event.

1.2 Prizes
First Prize : Gold Medal to the first winner in each category.

Second Prize : Silver Medal to contestant placed in the second


in each category.

Third Prize : Two Bronze Medals to the losing semifinalist in


each category.

CLOSING DATE

1.1 The Closing date for all entries & payment will be on 15th April 2010.

1.2 The organizing committee wish to have your reply on participation, once you

Note :-
- SMA Committee (through International understanding) requires all foreign
participants to take up the accommodation package provided by the
competition organizers as part of participation criteria as all meeting, referee
clinic, will be conducted in the hotel.

- All related activities would take place in the officially assigned Hotel and all
transportation between Hotel and competition venue would be provided.
