In 2014 alone, 12,500 girls below the age of 18 dropped out of school in

Zambia due to early marriage, teenage pregnancies and other vices.

(FAWEZA). That means 42% girls got married before the age of 18.
(UNFPA).

These worrying statistics show Zambia as one of the highest Child

Marriage rates in the world. (UN) (Ministry of Gender and
Development). This is where SAFIGI Outreach Foundation LTD aka
Safety First for Girls is Head Quartered.

The state of the girl child in Zambia is alarming, but due to the
developing condition of the nation, putting priority on girls rights and
gender equality is competing fiercely with issues such as providing clean
water, combating electricity shortage, issuing safe housing for all,
building good roads, tertiary education, eradicating disease such as HIV,
Malaria and Dysentery, as well as providing equal opportunity for both
genders among more vices challenging the nation.

Whilst attention has been given to the girl child, the societies attention
and resources are more focused on solving basic problems.
Consequently, 1 in 7 girls will be married by the age of 18 which results
in early pregnancy, high infant mortality, gender inequality in society
and the workplace, a high death rate with the leading cause of death for
youth being HIV/AIDS. Not to mention the effect these vices have on
Zambias economy.

SAFIGIs goal is to raise a generation where girls are empowered,

equipped and fulfilled in every aspect of their life for the development
of the entire world, thus, we aim to solve some of the issues facing
Zambian girls and marginalized girls anywhere in the world through our
Safety Education Course (SEC) which is a comprehensive course
designed to empower, equip and lead to fulfillment of the girl child
regardless of their education level, back ground or society they live in.

All the issues facing girls in the world today cannot be solved in one day.
Nonetheless, through dedication, volunteerism, social and safety
projects as well as collaboration, we are one step away from solving the
key issues restricting world development through the girl child.
