HIGHLIGHTS OF APRIL 1 SPECIAL BOARD MEETING

In a special open session meeting last night, the Board acted on two annual meeting related matters:
y The Board certified that Gary Dillon, Jerry Guske, Britt Johnson and Su Wolff are qualified candidates for the election to fill two
vacancies on the Board of Directors in June.
y The Board voted to present for member vote a proposal to raise annual dues by $108 to increase the member contribution to reserve
funding. A statement in support of the proposal for the Annual Meeting Notice was approved, pending legal review.
y The Board delayed until April 22 its action on a proposal to set up a separate investment account for lake health reserves.

BOARD WORK SESSION, Thurs., Apr. 8, at 7PM in the Crofton Room on proposed amendments to Policy Manual 4.02A, Financial
Management Policy. Time will be allotted for member comments on the meeting topic before the Board begins its discussion.

HELP WANTED: SEASONAL RECREATION MANAGER to oversee pool operation and organize recreational activities. Related
experience and/or education required. Employment applications are available at the Administration Office and on the website at
www.lmoa.org under Library, Forms, Miscellaneous.

TREE DISPOSAL SITE AT TUFTON LAKE WILL CLOSE on Fri., Apr. 9, to begin preparations for Spring Clean Up. The Bunker
Ballfield site will remain open a little longer to give residents time to dispose of storm-damaged trees.

WOOD CHIPS STILL AVAILABLE at both Bunker Ballfield and Tufton Lake for residents’ use.

GET READY TO SHOP!!! Spring Community Yard Sales will be held on Saturdays, Apr. 10 and 17. More than a
hundred residents have signed up to have sales at their homes. Lists of sale locations will be available at the
Clubhouse prior to the sale dates and at the Main Gate on the day of each sale. Directional arrows will direct shoppers
from Jefferson Drive.

WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE WILL MEET in the Operations Building on Thurs., Apr. 8, at 7PM. The meeting was
rescheduled from its regular first Thursday meeting date.

A BIG LAKE MONTICELLO WELCOME TO UVA WOMEN’S ROWING TEAM and their guests,
University of Michigan, Ohio State and Clemson. They will be practicing on Lake Monticello’s main lake on
Friday, April 2, from 12N to 6PM. Races will held on Sat, Apr. 3, beginning at 9AM and running through
6PM. Lake Monticello residents and guests are welcome to view the practice and the races. No wake speed will be enforced on the
lake during practice on Friday and during the races on Saturday.

y Volunteer Work Days on the Golf Course: If you want to assist our hard-working Golf Maintenance staff, please consider
volunteering for one or both work days planned for Mon., Apr. 5, and Wed., Apr. 7. Sign up at the Pro Shop for general clean up around
the course. Bring work gloves and rakes.

SMOKERS CAN PREVENT WILDFIRES BY THINKING TWICE and disposing of cigarette butts properly instead of simply
tossing them away. Just last week, a fire broke out in a mulched flowerbed on the golf course. The fire, which apparently was
caused by a carelessly tossed cigarette, quickly raced over the mulched area and into the woods that separate the golf
course from a street and homes. Thankfully, Pro Shop staff saw the fire’s smoke and called 911. The LM Fire Dept. was able
to put out the fire before it spread further, in spite of the dry ground conditions and strong winds. Smokers, please don’t let your
carelessness result in a tragedy -- dispose of your smokes properly. Your friends and neighbors thank you.

SAFETY & SECURITY MEETING LOCATION CHANGE: Effective with its April 15 meeting, the Safety & Security Committee will
meet at the Crofton Room on the third Thursday of each month.

FIRST READINGS FROM MARCH 25 BOARD MEETING: Two proposals were submitted for first reading during the Board’s
regular March meeting, as follows:
1. A proposal to amend Policy Manual 4.02A, Financial Management Policy, to improve transparency in the budgeting and financial
reporting and to develop a strategic approach to fund major expenditures. (See Board work session notice.)
2. A proposal to amend Bylaws Section 4.11, Voting, to delete obsolete language related to non-Association proxies.

SPRING CLEAN UP begins Fri., Apr. 16, and runs through Mon., May 10, 7AM to 7PM daily at Tufton Lake. After you’ve
disposed of unwanted but useable items through the Community Yard Sales or by donations to local charities, Spring Clean Up gives
you an easy way to discard unusable items that are too large for regular trash pick up. Dumpsters will be emptied, when necessary, on
Monday mornings and Wednesday and Friday afternoons.
Environmental and contract restrictions apply:
• Dumpsters are for residents’ personal use only. Commercial dumping is NOT permitted.
• Place discards inside the dumpster, not on the ground. When dumpsters are full and the area is closed, please return later.
• Do not dump construction debris; tires; paint; batteries; regular trash/garbage; leaves and yard waste; household or other
chemicals, including fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides.
• Appliances containing coolant are NOT permitted. If you want to dispose of refrigerators, freezers or air conditioners, contact the
Administration Office at (434) 589-8263 for instructions.
• If you see abuse of these restrictions, please call Meg Gore at (434) 589-8263, extension 110. Thank you for helping keep this
service available.

“BOAT VIRGINIA” CLASS, Sat., Apr. 24, from 9AM to 4PM in the Terrace Room. This free safe-boating class is limited to the first

CORRECTION – COST OF RAIN BARRELS: We’ve just learned that an incorrect price was quoted in the Spring Activities flyer for
two rain barrels during the June 5 rain barrel workshop. The correct price is $55 for one rain barrel or $105 (not $95) for two.
