Balboa Park’s Spanish Village Art Center Home to Local Artists


Southwestern Artists’ Association invites San Diego community members to visit the
Spanish Village Art Center and recognize the talent of emerging and established local
artists.

Located at the nation’s largest urban cultural park, Balboa Park’s Gallery 23 is open daily
from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., maintaining an exhibit of original fine art changed bi-monthly
from its juried membership of more than 50 artists.

May’s Two Artist Show will feature the paintings of artists Betsy Brown and Connie
Jackson from May 1 to 15, with the work of Lyn White also exhibited in the smaller
Alcove Gallery.

From May 16 to 31, “Progressions” will feature the figurative paintings of Gail Ackley
and Lyn White, also including watercolorist Jennifer Meeder in the smaller Alcove
Gallery. Interested community members and prospective consumers have the
opportunity of meeting these artists at the art reception held on May 17 at 4:30 p.m.

Southwestern Artists’ Association, Gallery 23 located in Spanish Village Art Center at Balboa

Featured Artists: May – 15, 2009


Betsy Brown – Brown, an artist known for her versatility will be showing her work in a variety of
media, including collage, and subject which includes still life and landscape. Look for humor and
an individualistic approach.

Connie Jackson - Jackson, a La Mesa resident, will be showing plein-air oil landscapes of local
scenery and from her extensive travels abroad.

Lyn White (in small Alcove Gallery) – New seascapes and still life paintings in oil. Lyn has
always been interested in the arts. Prior to becoming an artist, Lyn taught dance and played
classical piano. She also created a line of hand painted silk scarves for a boutique in Seattle,
Washington. Lyn’s art expresses the goodness and beauty that she sees in nature and in all
people.

Gail Ackley – Using a palette of saturated earth tones Gail has chosen to showcase her bird
paintings, aspects of our local environment, and her figurative paintings inspired by old family
photos in mixed media.

Lyn White – New seascapes and still life paintings in pastels & oilsl. Lyn has always been
interested in the arts. Prior to becoming an artist, Lyn taught dance and played classical piano.
She also created a line of hand painted silk scarves for a boutique in Seattle, Washington. Lyn’s
art expresses the goodness and beauty that she sees in nature and in all people.

Jennifer Meeder (featured in the small Alcove Gallery) – Watercolorist, Jennifer Meeder is
known for her stunning, vibrant flower portraits depicting nature's truth. Her meticulous attention
to detail is evident and is gained through her use of color to create depth. A collection of smaller
