1. What is Jerrys sister doing?

Mother: Why is your sister crying?

Jerry: She doesnt want to watch this movie.
Mother: Of course she doesnt want to watch it. Its a horror movie! Horror movies are too scary!
You shouldnt watch horror movies with her.
Jerry: Can I at least watch until the next commercial?
Mother: Okay, but after that you have to change the channel. If Wendy has nightmares tonight, its your
fault.

2. What will happen to David this week?

Aunt Mindy: Congratulations, David! I hear that youre graduating from elementary school this week.
David:
Yes, Im finishing elementary school and starting junior high school.
Aunt Mindy: Youre not a child anymore. Youre a young adult and your teachers expect you to be
responsible and mature.
David:
Yeah, I know I have to start studying hard now.
Aunt Mindy: If you study hard and get good grades in junior high school, your parents will be very
proud of you.

3. What did Tad say he wanted to do?

Chad: Do you want to come to my house and watch a movie? We have cable at our house now.
Tad: I dont want to watch boring movies. Im going to the city centre to get a tattoo on my arm.
Chad: A tattoo? Are you crazy?
Tad: Im not crazy. I think tattoos look cool.
Chad: Maybe you think tattoos look cool now, but in a few years, when youre older and smarter, you
might regret it. And tattoos are painful. They use a needle, and your skin will be sore for a long time.
Tad: Im just kidding! Youre so gullible!
4. What did Peter tell Lynn to do?

Lynn: Would you switch seats with me, Rose? This desk is too small for me.
Rose: Im just as big as you are! If its too small for you, its too small for me, too! Tell the teacher that your
desk is too small. Im sure shell find a bigger one for you.
Lynn: I already told her, and she told me to ask someone to switch seats with me.
Rose: You should ask Peter to switch with you. His desk is the biggest in the whole class.
Lynn: I asked Peter first, and he told me to go fly a kite!
Rose: Yeah, hes not the most considerate person in the world. I guess youre stuck with that funny desk
then.
5. Which sport did the girl watch on TV last night?

Boy: Did you see the England-Italy football match yesterday? It was brilliant. Much better than the
swimming last weekend.
Girl: I missed the swimming anyway. I wanted to watch the football after the tennis f inished, but my
parents had visitors so I had to turn it off.
Boy: Bad luck.
Girl: Yeah, and the tennis wasnt very good either. I didnt enjoy it.
6. What will they buy first?

Girl: Which shops do you want to go to this afternoon, Billy?

Boy: I want to buy a computer game for my brother and I need some new trainers.
Girl: You always take a long time looking for computer games, so lets do that last. Theres that huge
shoe shop near the station so we can go there first.
Boy: OK. And theres a bookshop next door so we can go there after the shoe shop. I need a book for
school.

Interviewer: Hi Karen. I know you led a Comenius project in your school. What impact has it had on
students?
Teacher: When I was asked if I was ready to go to Denmark for a preparatory meeting for a Comenius
project Im ashamed to admit that I felt scared. Wales had always been enough for me. Id never felt the
need to take a gap year or go on exotic holidays. I went to Denmark though. I came back as secretary
for a Comenius project for 10 countries.

After that I was very busy. Our project was called Citizenship Locally and Globally and we held seven
meetings about different themes such as creativity and bullying. I had to collect information about our
school to present during project meetings. It sounds strange to say that one effect of Comenius was
that I got to know my school better because I was asking questions I wouldnt have asked if we werent
part of the project.
From the start it wasnt enough for me that I had seen other countries, eaten different food, talked
about different education systems. What was the point of that? Just one person having an amazing
experience? I wanted the effect of my Comenius experience to be greater. I wanted the children in my
school to realise that there was more to the world than their little corner. I wanted them to be inspired.
So I started to talk, I told my class about what Id seen.
Every time I came back from a Comenius project meeting the children in my class couldnt wait. They
wanted to know what food they ate in Spain or Slovenia, what was special about Norway or Bulgaria, was
the Latvian school different from ours? And I knew the answers without having to Google them. But the
best day, the day I knew that Comenius would really influence the school life of these children, was when
a child asked me if Norwegian sounded similar to Danish. My answer? You can find out for yourself, theyll
be visiting us soon. They looked at each other for a split second. The response? They want to visit us?
Yes, they did, and I had to work with the school director to organise it. But it was okay, I had 27 willing
helpers.

Radio Interviewer: Ive heard that you started a volunteer project on an unusual farm in Ireland. Can
you tell us a little more about your project, Mr Miller?

Mr Miller: Our children are grown up, but our youngest son is still at university and stays with us. We
live near a small village, but within 10 minutes of the city. My wife and I are both retired teachers, but
are active working on a small farm and we have been running a small Summer English language school
for many years.
We are building a big tree house here and soon will be our 4th year in this construction project. It will be
used for entertainment and as an English classroom during July.
This year we would like to design and plant a Maze and open it to the public very soon. We work with a
special school during the week and also with homeless people in the garden through an organisation
called Focus Ireland.

We are looking to develop a pet farm for the general public next year. Starting on March 20th, well be
welcoming people interested in working in a vegetable garden and helping out in the development of
the place.
We have lots of varied, interesting projects throughout the year but we would like to hear from teachers,
cooks and sport activity organisers for July.
Some of the skills needed are painting, mixing concrete, using a hammer, painting experience, plumbing
experience and electrical experience.

For the month of July we would love to hear from English teachers with enthusiasm, sports teachers and
sports leaders with great ideas for activities. Also a cook who can produce great dishes for lots of kids
and adult teachers and leaders would take this experience to a different level.
At the moment we are also interested in hearing from anyone able to create a website for our farm and
the activities going on here. Can you help us with Facebook and other social media to promote what
we do at the farm?

PART 4
Alex: Hey Jane theres a concert in the park today. Do you want to go see the band?
Jane: Im done with my homework so yeah, lets go.
Jane: Hey, look at that sport car. Isnt it neat?
Alex: That is exactly the kind of car that I want once I get a good job. I bet its really fast. I want a red one,
though.

Jane: Keep on dreaming, Alex. That car costs a fortune.

Alex: It doesnt hurt to dream. Maybe one day Ill make a lot of money, and I might surprise you.
Jane: Talking about cars, why is the traffic so heavy today?
Alex: People are probably heading toward the park for the concert. The band does play pretty good
music.

Jane: Yes, it does. Ive been to their concerts for the last three years now. I always manage to organise
things, so I can go and see them. They started this tradition of playing in our park during the f irst
week of June about five years ago, before you moved into our neighbourhood.

Alex: Youll have fun tonight, Jane. Therell be good country music, a lot of stomping around, and
definitely a lot of shouting. What kind of music do you like anyway?

Jane: Rock and roll but country can be fun. I could listen to it all day long. Wow, look at the queue. Good
job we got here early.

Alex: Where do you want to sit, Jane? In the shade or in the sun?
Jane: In the shade. Ive been in the sun too much lately. Theres a food stand over there. Do you want
anything?
Alex: A bag of chips and a bottle of coke. What about you?
Jane: Im fine. Besides, my mother is cooking steak for dinner, and I dont want to spoil my appetite.
Youd better get your chips and coke now if you still want them. It is almost 3, and the concerts
about to start.
Alex: OK, keep my seat. Ill be right back.
