GROUP DISCUSSION
TOPIC: Do we give undue importance to cricket?
INTRODUCTION
Group discussion is a methodology where a group of people meet face to face and
through oral interaction, share and discuss ideas to arrive at a decision or to find solution
for the problem. In this methodology, the group of candidates is given a few minutes to
think about the same, and asked to discuss it among themselves for 15-20 minutes.

SKILLS PRACTISED
Our team consisted of six members. We were given instructions about the
discussion and the way to discuss it among ourselves. We were given 10 minutes to think
about the topic. All the students and the staff were listening to the discussion. We
practised how to be flexible and developed our creativity.

SUMMARY
We discussed all the aspects of the topic. All the students of the group gave their
views on the topic. Some students agreed that cricket is given more priority than other
sports in India and some were against it. Since all the students in the group came with the
valid ideas there was not much opposition. Thus, our discussion came to an end by
accepting that the importance that is given to cricket is what it deserves.
After the discussion was over, the active participation of students was lauded.
However, our staff pointed out some mistakes made by each one of us during the
discussion and some tips were given to improve our discussion.

OBSERVATION
We worked as a team with presence of mind and proved that we can face the
group discussion with courage.

FEEDBACK
We exchanged the information we had and learnt how to pursue our goals. We
developed our communication skills and our reasoning ability.

INTERVIEW

INTRODUCTION
Interview is a social process, which involves interactions between two persons
the interviewer and the interviewee. It gives a chance to the interviewer to have a glimpse
of the inner traits and qualities of the interviewee. In a very short span of time one has to
exhibit ones attitude, skills and knowledge. In this process, the interview is face-to-face.
The questions asked by the interviewer are very simple. Interview lasts for only a few
minutes. But its impact is lifelong.

SKILLS PRACTISED
We practised how to answer politely and assertively. Listening skill is given more
importance than what is spoken. The reason is that the answer will be relevant only if the
question is understood.

Body language - eye contact, appropriate volume, firm

handshake is highlighted.

SUMMARY
The interview began with the question, Tell me about yourself. I started
describing my life and family including my likes and dislikes, goals and achievements
and so on. He wanted to know how I had faced challenges and achieved positive
outcomes in my life. The questions were based on the skills and personality traits that
were required for the role I had applied for.

OBSERVATION
Each student took up the role of a prospective employee. This was of immense
help to get rid of tension and also to mould us bold enough to face the same process in
future courageously.

FEEDBACK
We got convinced of the right strategy to approach the interview process. The
enactment of the same helped us to put theory into practice for getting through the same.

Some of the frequently asked questions are:

1. Tell me about yourself
2. What are your key strengths / skills?
3. What are your weaknesses?
4. Why did you leave your last job?
5. Why do you want this job?
6. Give me an example of a difficult situation/task at work and how you dealt
with it.
7. Tell me about an achievement you are proud of
8. What are your career goals?
9. What are your expectations of the salary?
10. What do you know about the organisation?

ENGLISH LAB

REPORT ON ENGLISH MASTERY

INTRODUCTION
English Mastery is A teaching software, which helps to improve our fundamental
English knowledge or the basic level of our communication to such a level that we can
communicate with other people fluently. It includes subjection of students to many tasks.

SKILLS PRACTISED
The skills that we were subjected to during our learning session were listening
and repeating words, sentences, idioms and phrases, use of preposition, articles,
adjective, adverb and tenses in correct places and solving English puzzles like crosswords
etc.

SUMMARY
English mastery contains 5 main important exercises. They are
1. Audio Lab
2. Word Lab
3. Crossword
4. Audio-Write Lab
5. Match the following.
English Mastery starts with audio lab. In Audio Lab session, we listen to the
conversation among people. This is an audio exercise.
In the Word Lab session, the conversation is displayed as a word format on the
screen and high-level words are highlighted. The meaning of the highlighted word will be
displayed when we click on those highlighted words.
The third exercise is the Crossword. In this exercise, puzzles are asked based
upon the conversion. This exercise is used to test our memory skills of what we have
already read in the previous exercise.
The fourth exercise is the Audio-Write lab. In this session, an audio is played on
the background of the screen and according to the audio we have to enter the dialogue on
the screen. This test is used to assess how we listen and respond to questions.

The fifth and the last exercise is the Match-the-Following exercise. In this
exercise, half of the sentences of the conversation will be given in one column and other
half in the opposite column. We have to correctly match according to the conversation.
This test is conducted to assess our listening skills.

OBSERVATION
The time given for us is 90 minutes. Our teacher has been so supportive that
he/she has helped each and every one to get a clear view of all lab exercises. Each one of
us has been given a separate system so that we all are able to improve our skills. Thus the
English Lab is to improve our fluency and to correct our mistakes.
